Spike and Willow?

           by Andrea

Spike was growing weary of his current situation.  He was in love with the Slayer.  He knew that as did everyone else!  But he had to find a way to break this curse!  Maybe there was with another way.  Perhaps meeting someone new.  A new interest!  What an idea!

So, he left his lair and wandered down the streets of Sunnydale, just waiting to run into someone.  Preferrably a woman, but at this point, he was not picky.  Just a woman to help him rid his thoughts of Buffy.  But it seemed like he was walking all night.  He would find people.  Couples.  People walking hand and hand and it drove him crazy since that was not what he wanted.  He wanted to find a lonely woman just longing for company of strong man.  He wanted to be that strong man.

Just as he was going to give up and return to his "home" he spotted someone.  A woman from what it seemed.  A woman sitting on the curb in front of the Magic Shoppe, her hand in her hands.  He stood straight and began to hunt his prey.  He moved to her side and looked down at her, she not even aware that he stood there.

"Good evening love."

She looked up looking rather confused and even more importantly, upset.  Her cheeks were tear stained.  He looked at her and realized that it was one of the Slayer's friends.  The witch, Willow.  He was about to try to pick up the witch.  He rolled his eyes.

"Bloody hell, it's you."  He began to walk away when he noticed that she just looked away from him.  Sobbing a bit.  He mumbled to himself, and could not believe he was about to open this can of worms.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing..."  Her voice quivered.  And she did not look up.

"Alrighty then, have a good night!"  And he started to walk away again, but guilt over took him.  "Oh alright..."  He moved to her side and sat on the curb next to her.  "Tell me what is wrong."

"I said nothing." She wiped her cheeks with her sleeve.

"Oh, right!  That is why you're sittin' there crying your eyes out.  Right, nothing is wrong."  He shook his head and looked away.

"It's just...well..."  Was she going to tell him?  She didn't want to, but she didn't know who else to talk to.  And he was there after all.  "I'm just upset."

"Well, I know that, geez."  He once again shook his head.  Was she serious?  "Do you want to talk about it?"  He found himself being a bit kinder than before, his voice softening.

"It's just that I had a fight with Tara."

He felt out of the loop.  Was he supposed to know who Tara was?  He assumed that she was just a friend of hers.  "Alright."

"She said that I was self absorbed...and I don't think I'm self absorbed.  Do you think I'm self absorbed?"  She looked to Spike, tears still falling on her cheeks.

"Well I don't know..."  Once again, was this girl serious?  Was she asking for his opinion on herself, when she knew little about her.  "Why don't you ask the Slayer about this?"

She seemed a bit frustrated at hearing her name.  "Buffy doesn't have a lot of time these days and seems a bit preoccupied.  I don't wanna disturb her with my petty problems."

The first thing that came to mind was 'But you don't mind disturbing me?'  But he could see that she was truly hurting.  Whoever this Tara person was had done a real number on her.

"Oh," was all he said.  He just propped his arms on his leg and listened.

"She said...she said that I was too involved in work, and that she felt like an outsider...she said that she tried to fit in, but that it was hard for her...and she said that I didn't understand.  I understand...don't you think I understand?  I mean, I try to be understanding, but it's hard when you are involved in Buffy's life, do you understand?"

He didn't understand much of what she was saying but he did understand that it was hard to be a part of Buffy's life.  But he just listened.

"Well, I tried to tell her that I understood and that is when she said that I was self absorbed and she left."  She sobbed a bit.  "And I don't know what to do."

"I don't think sitting here crying about it is going to make it better do you?"  His voice was sarcastic.  He knew it, and she looked hurt and she looked like she regretted saying anything to begin with.  And he felt bad.  "I'm sorry...look Willow...right?"

She nodded..."Look Willow, if this Tara person is your friend, she'll understand what's going on in your life.  You are a part of a special group of people."  He couldn't believe that he was calling this group special.

"Oh...well....Tara is not just a friend...well, she is a friend, but she's more than a friend...you know...?"
