Complete the following activities at your own pace while at the zoo. To prove that you were at each area, you must take a picture with an animal from the areas- so you should have 7 pictures total (yes they can be group pics). The pictures can be turned in with your assignment! If you are going on your own- you need to also have the receipt turned in with your work.

 

Reptile House and Beyond

Walk through the Reptile House, visit the Tortoises and Reptile Mesa.

Find and list the name of a snake that can spray venom.

List 3 characteristics of the Komodo Dragon.

Walk through Tiger River.

Pick one of the animals here. Describe it’s niche.

How do these animals effect their ecosystems?

What biomes do they live in?

How are fishing cats adapted to their environment?

How do pythons climb trees?

How has the Indo Chinese Tiger become endangered?

What is the only living relative of the giraffe?

 

 

Primate Mesa/Gorillas/Orangutans

Walk through the Primate Mesa.

List 5 members in this exhibit and the biome that they belong in.

What types of interactions between primates and other animals are there? List 3 examples.

Pick one primate. Observe it for 5 continuous minutes and record its behavior in a chart. DO NOT TEASE OR THROW ANYTHING AT IT!!

Back at home, look up animal behaviors in CH. 51. Pick 3 behaviors that you observed and describe them.

Observe the various birds.

Walk along the pathway.

Choose one animal and watch it for 5 minutes. Record it’s behavior on a chart. From Ch. 51, look up what type of social behaviors they are displaying.
