Thee Minks--Songs About Boys
Steel Cage   2003

On this 7", Songs About Boys, Thee Minks throw their hats into the arena with some serious girl group garage rocking. Lots of other ladies have done similar stuff over the years but that really doesn't matter as long as the band can deliver. Set your mind at ease because, oh yes, Thee Minks do indeed deliver on this sweet, pink, four song slab.

Songs About Boys kicks off on the A-side with its best track, "Lust For You." This cut sets the pace for what's to come on the rest of the platter--garage rock n' roll that comes off as a cross between the power of the Pandoras and the dead-on sixties vibe of the Brood. "Lust For You" feels particularly Brood-ish, due to its tasteful use of organ. This is followed up by the stomp of "I Lie To Boys," a song which benefits a great deal from the vocal interplay of Hope Diamond and Liz Lixx.

The B-side of
Songs About Boys starts with the crushing beat of "Cavegirl Love." You actually get the feeling drummer Veronica Beats was imagining clubbing some dude over the head while she was laying this down--her performance really helps propel the feel of the song. "Crushed Out" closes the 7" in fine form, Thee Minks gelling in perfect synergy.

From front to back,
Songs About Boys is a solid piece of Amazonian garage rock vixenry. This is the result of a group of songs which are executed as proficiently as they were composed. Bottom line: if you don't want your heart broken, these are the ladies to avoid. However, if you just have the primal need to be rocked, look no further than Thee Minks--they won't let you down.
