Houston Area Chow Rescues

Welcome to the Houston Area Chow Rescue site.
We would like to try to concentrate on pure bred chows over the age of three since these are the ones that have a harder time finding homes. If you know of a needy pure bred chow 3 years old and younger, please contact West Texas Chow Rescue. All of our current rescues (unless otherwise noted) are being fostered by Josie Klapper of Triangle Farms. Josie is located in Waller which is North of Houston off of Hwy. 290. Her contact info. is listed at the bottom of this page.

Nemo's wound -

Read what "Nemo's" foster parent says about him : "I have found a young Chow mix who needs help. When I found him he had recently been shot and left in the middle of nowhere. I took him to the vet where he spent a week. The bullet passed through his back just behind his shoulders and has left him with a limp. The limp fades and worsens depending on how much resting or playing he does. This puppy is pretty young, maybe about 6 months old, and weighs 32 lbs. My vet thinks he is part Chow and part Spitz. He is very friendly and gets along great with my 2 other dogs. He loves to play with them and tries not to let his limp get in the way. This little guy really deserves a caring family who will take good care of him. He will make a great companion for a family with kids and or other dogs as well as a one dog family." ADOPTED on 1-21-04 !!!!

"Chester" is a chow mix, not sure what the mix is, but he is a lovely reddish/brown color. He's approx. 9 months old and good with other dogs, may be good with older children as he loves to play. Photo will be added later

"Buddy" is a chow mix, possiably GSD, he is a very nice shade of red and approx. 2 yrs. old. Buddy will need a home where his new parents don't mind that he was hit by a car and has a limp in his front leg. Photo will be added later

Lexie is a 1 yr. old red chow in need of a good home. She is housebroken and is being fostered in Kingsville, about 4 hrs. away from Houston on Hwy. 77. Those interested in Lexie need to contact her foster Judy Anthony via email

"Neno" is a 5 yr. old black female who is spayed. She is owner turn in and she is a bit shy. Neno should do fine in a home where she is given lots of attention and understanding. She should do best in a home without young children. Photo coming soon

These are just a few of the chows available. Since we get chows in so quickly, we sometimes have a hard time keeping this page caught up. Please contact Josie to hear about dogs not listed or those that have just arrived and will be available soon.

You CAN stop the Hate.

Since this site is a rescue site, it is always under construction. Please visit us often to see our updates. This page last updated on Sept. 28, 2004.

Our rescue is often asked what items are needed or what can someone do to help us. We have put together a wish list and instructions on how to donate items that we need. Some of these items are always needed (like food). We appreciate any and all donations. To view our wish list and make a donation, please click Wish List/ Donations Needed

We also care for elderly chows who can use sponsers to help in their care. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or want to see the Retired Houston Area Chow Rescues, please click here Retired Rescues

We always welcome guests to the property and we encourage volunteers to come out and help with grooming & socializing on Sundays. Please call Josie at 936-931-9674 to let her know that you'll be coming out.
