Chapter 14
He was restless.  What had come over him?  He  discarded the strewn arm that lay upon his body and slid out of her bed.    He  wandered through the darkened home  and finally settled in the living room flipping the television on more for background noise than anything else.   As the screen illuminated the room, there it was.   Her book. What was he missing by not becoming interested in anything she had to do or say lately?  Was theirs just a mere physical attraction?  Nothing more than a good roll in the hay when he needed to get a little rowdy?  Sure he was  a little overprotective of her. What man in his right mind wouldn't be overprotective of Simone?  For as much contempt as they held for one another, he felt a need to protect her.  She was just that type of woman.  The type of woman that made you believe she needed that protection for all the independence she proclaimed upon herself. Something else had been eating at him as well though; Kevin's attitude.  Normally he would just shrug it off but the way he'd been treating himself brought up some obvious questions.  Why had he been so happy from the minute he hit town?  The ink just dried on the divorce papers from a woman that left him.  He certainly couldn't be happy about that and then, then the remark about Simone.    Granted, Simone was a very attractive woman but why was Kevin all of a sudden so interested in a book made for women and why was he urging him to read it?  He picked up the book and turned it to the description on the back.
Lady Symonne, Lord Alixandre and Master Colin.  An untimely love triangle.  Fast forward to Simone, Alan and Cameron.  Modern day fairytale you think?  Think again.  The very obstacles that fated them centuries ago once again surfaces as Simone weaves the very tale that kept her from her knight in shining armour.  Will true love prevail?  Will Simone find her modern day Prince Charming?  Step into Simone De Chanel's world and see if you believe that true love survives all or if history repeats itself  for all eternities.
He now knew what Kevin was referring to.  At least he thought he did. Curiosity got the better of him and being as he couldn't sleep anyway, he turned the end table's lamp on and flipped the television off.
He became so immersed in the story himself he barely felt the silk glide of her fingers slide over his bared physique from behind the couch.  His gaze turned upward to the dazzling hazel eyes above him.
"Whatcha doing?  I missed you,"she offered.
"I found one of your books."
She made her way around the couch planting herself next to him."Forever Yours.  One of my favorites."
"Really that good eh?"he inquired skeptically.
"You're reading it so it says something about the romance genre in itself,"she quipped.
"Very funny Marie. What is it about this book?"
"Are you kidding?  It's what every girl dreams of Age.  The medieval knight in shining armour turning into the modern day prince charming.  Lady Symonne is quite the character herself.   She was a woman built for a different place and time stuck in a society where women were meant to be subserviant."
"I find that hard to believe."
"Take the book home with you then and tell me I'm wrong."
"Okay.  You win."
"You're welcome to take it home but I need you right now."
"You do?"he growled as he set the book on the end table.
"Very much,"she returned.
He attempted to move over her but she slid from the couch.
"But you have to catch me first,"she dashed for the bedroom.
He caught her by the waist at the entrance of the room.
"You won me.  Now what do you plan to do with me?"she taunted.
"Can we be serious for just a second here please."
"If I am, will you ravage me like you never have before?"
"I promise."
"Okay."
"Kevin said something to me the other day that didn't make a lot of sense until now."
"And what is that?"
"It was  about the book."
"The book?"
"Forever yours.  He said it was more than just romance, it was history dying to repeat itself."
"How's that?"
"Do you believe in past lives and all that?"
"I guess so.  I believe we keep coming back until we get it right if that's what you're talking about.  Why?"
"I don't know.  I just get this feeling I'm very much a part of this story."
She withdrew from him immediately.
"Marie?"
"I'm sorry Alex.  I just,"she hesitated trying to find the words.
"What is it?"he softly inquired.
"The book. If what you think is true, I think you'd better read further than you have."
"But why did you shrink away from me."
"The Lord was not a very sensitive man  I guess is what I'm trying to say."
"Let's say it's not the truth though.   I'm not that man Marie.  You have to know that,"he gently took her hand.
"I'm so sorry Alex.  Just when you said that you thought you were very much a part of this story and
He interrupted her with a languid, gentle kiss."I love you Marie.  I would never hurt you." But Simone was another story and he didn't know why.
