EXPERIENCE

1997 - Present . . . . VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS, Silver Spring, MD

Systems Engineer

Responsible for providing high levels of availability and maintaining client satisfaction for approximately 70 UTS/UNIX/AIX based applications. Duties include troubleshooting/correcting of TCP/IP and TCIS problems as well as hardware/ software troubles, if possible, or notification of appropriate support personnel.

  • Review and correct system documentation, ensuring correct information is available when needed and reducing downtime during a crisis.
  • Identified and replaced failed communications interface when no hardware support was available, keeping downtime to a minimum.


1991 - 1996 . . . . QUOTRON SYSTEMS, INC., Silver Spring, MD

Production Support/Project Manager

Responsible for production support, maintaining software for over 100 systems and for new system installation when required.

  • Received, tested and loaded approximately 50-new/updated software releases per month from development unit, with minimal disruption of service.
  • Planned and installed new systems, completing all well ahead of schedule, ensuring a smooth transition to the new systems.

1989 - 1991 . . . . QUOTRON SYSTEMS, INC., Silver Spring, MD

Senior Operations Specialist/Shift Manager

Responsible for 3rd shift operations and troubleshooting/maintenance of equipment running different operating systems, including: Quotron Proprietary, UNIX, AIX, DOS, and Windows.

  • Developed emergency recovery procedures for all equipment, reducing system downtime significantly.
  • Created daily/weekly/monthly reports on system performance, tracking problems and working out fixes to increase uptime.

1984 - 1988 . . . . U.S. AIR FORCE, Langley AFB, VA

Computer Operations Manager

Responsible for a 24 X 7 operation, that included the computer operations section, media library and communications for a Honeywell DPS-8 operation. Also responsible for training, systems and building security, software and hardware maintenance, supply and equipment management and building maintenance.

  • Designed and initiated training program, increasing efficiency and minimized time needed for training.
  • Developed system procedures which, when combined with the training program, increased operator proficiency and decreased system downtime.
  • Planned and implemented new computer system, designed to allow real-time updating of data and reports development, reducing required man-hours.
  • Implemented new program changes and established new procedures that reduced computer run-time and possible errors.
