UA&P's History of Participation in HPAIR

The University of Asia and the Pacific is one of the earliest and original members of the Network. Since the very first HPAIR conference in 1992, students from the University of Asia and the Pacific have sought to participate in this annual international student conference held in different parts of Asia. Each year, the University not only sends its own students but also coordinates with top Philippine universities for the formation of the Philippine delegation. In 1994, the University (then still known as the Center for Research and Communication) co-hosted the third HPAIR conference. The third HPAIR had the theme "Economic Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific" and this was held in May 1994 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

After HPAIR 1999, the decision was made to create and send university instead of country delegations. The UA&P HPAIR Society was conceived and slowly made became a reality. Among the society's accomplishments are the organization's accreditation under UA&Ps Institute of Political Economy; the conduct of local seminars and fund-raising activities; and the preparation of the UA&P delegation for the HPAIR Conference.

The UA&P-HPAIR Society hopes to facilitate the increased participation of students from different Philippine universities in the HPAIR conference, and to undertake endeavors and activities that foster reasoned dialogue and fruitful exchange.
