Calvin Asbury Hinson was born in Troy, Pike County, Alabama on June 6, 1903 to Thomas Martin Hinson and Martha Annie Gibson. He was named for Martha Annie's father, Calvin Riley Gibson and Thomas' father, Mastin Asbury Hinson.

When he was a year old, his immediate family and another Hinson family moved to Texas, settling near Waco. They chartered two box cars on a steam engine for the furniture and livestock. The women and children rode coach, and the men rode on the box cars to take care of the animals. Steam engines couldn't go far without refueling, so the frequent stops gave the men opportunity to care for the animals.

Calvin lived most of his 92 years in the Waco area, with his wife, Esther Sydow Hinson. They had four sons; Milton (Jack), Jerome (JC), James and Donald.

He provided for his family by farming and with a brief stint as an employee at the prison farm in Huntsville, Texas.

Calvin was well loved and respected and here some of those who loved him keep his memory alive by sharing some of the things we remember about him.
