You can call me Morte, my mom doesn't like it (she named me Kristina and that's my name, period, end of story.)but I'm 28 years old and I didn't exactly go seeking the name. Now I like it and all the implicit jokes, mort is French for death and feminine to boot (I added the "e" to stress that) . Nothing makes me giggle like statements such as "Behold Death conqueror of Nations" or "she'll be the Death of him". It came about because friends online got sick of typing HrMortcia, my online "identity" Her Royal Majesty Morticia condensed to fit EFnet IRC nickservers. Online friends became friends I see in the "real" world and the name stuck. When I married one of those friends it virtually assured that the nickname will never leave me.
So who am I?
In no particular order?
I'm a Domestic Goddess
You know, I don't have a job that I get PAID for of course I do a lot of stuff I don't get paid for...
I'm a Girl Scout Leader and SUM
I co-lead a troop of Junior Girl Scouts with my friend Michelle and have since the fall of '04. I've been the Service Unit Manager for my SU since this past fall (2005) I'm not sure if I will continue on as SUM though...
I'm a Shanty Jockey
I volunteer as a Disc Jockey at Shanty Raidio I have two shows, Blessed Caffeine and The Wenching Hour which keep me very busy!
I am an Artist I enjoy many art and craft related pastimes.
You could find me drawing, sewing, writing, rubber stamping, photographing, woodworking or painting.
I read. Voraciously.
If it's between two covers and not gory/horror I will probably read it. I prefer science fiction and fantasy overall but also enjoy mainstream fiction, poetry, history, romance, religious topics and cookbooks.
I love to cook.
You name it with few possible exceptions I'll try it especially recipes for baking. And I love to feed people so I entertain as often as possible.
I am a solitary Pagan (one who belongs to no "sect" of Paganism).
For me:
*This means I believe that The Divine is all around me in myself and others, in nature, in a beautiful sunset or a ruby red leaf, a sudden rain or lightning filled sky.
*I believe that The Divine has two aspects, Male and Female which exist in harmony and balance neither one "ruling" or overshadowing the other. I believe each has many manifestations known as Gods and Goddesses and that no two people see them the same way.
*I believe that I must seek knowledge and define my faith myself through research and personal interactions with others.
*I believe that my Way is One Way not The One Way, indeed I believe there is no One True Way.
I love blue.
Cobalt to be precise, the color you find in blue glass. All other shades are beautiful as well but that bright shining blue speaks to me most.
I am a wife.
I coexist with another, my husband. We do our best to make the most of our relationship, good and bad. He is my very best friend and a wonderful guy.. except of course when he isn't. We've been married for over five years now.
I am a daughter.
And a sister I have a wonderful, crazy family, we make each other laugh and stand by each other, none of use are perfect (no matter what my brother and sister say) but we have a good and loving relationship.
I belong to 3 cats.
Morgane Arthur and Nimue. All three are beautiful in a distinct and wonderful way and all three conspire to make petting them our chief occupation.
And a bird named Perceval who is just as interested in monopolzing our time!
I am an "otaku".
Meaning I'm crazy about Japanese Animation (anime). I consider it a beautiful, intricate and at times amazingly amusing art form.
I am a "rennie".
I attend Renaissance Faires, although not as frequently as I did on the East Coast . I "dress up" in costume inspired by that of the Renaissance and attend these events with a joyous attitude (except when my bodice boning decides to poke through).
I am a SCAdian.
I've been active in the SCA for more than 3 years since we moved to Washington after many futile attempts to become involved in NJ. We play in the Kingdom of An Tir in the Barony of Dragons Laire which is the best Barony in the Knowne World (followed closely by Darkwater of Trimaris). I enjoy my time spent as Lady Margret a great deal. My especial area of interest in the SCA is medieval cooking.
I am a Wench.
#1236 to be exact. I belong to the International Wenches Guild, a social club for women who enjoy Renaissance Faires.
I love music.
My favorites include female vocalists (Tori Amos especially), Celtic and Celtic inspired, classical, "oldies", "80's", alternative and well pretty much everything except most country and rap.
Hi. I'm Morte. Nice to meet you.
