12/99 ***I LOVE our pediatricians in Arlington, Alewife Brook Community Pediatrics, located by the CVS near the intersection of Mass Ave and Rt. 16. My daughters see Dr. Martha McCarty, and my son sees Dr. Pangburn. They are both wonderful. They were at HCHP and then they started their own practice. HCHP still lets us use them because there was such a huge outcry by their patients and parents. Their number is 7816434507. I'd recommend Dr. McCarty for a girl just because eventually the kids get embarrassed by opposite sex doctors.

***I like our pediatrician very much. She's in practice with 2 or 3 other doctors at the LayeyHitchcock pediatrics at Symmes Hospital in Arlington, and I think they're all good. Her name is Dr. Janet Antonioni, phone 7816437700.

***Dr. Carole Allen is ours (781 6437155). I really like her Mill Street. I don't know about her associates though.

***Yes, I love our pediatrician Dr. Robert Meyer at the Symmes hospital (I think it's also called Lahey?) He's in the Allmerica plan.

2/00 ***I really like the Harvard Vanguard Watertown pediatricians. Dr. Henry Rikkers is the one I like best old, wise, basically conservative, and happy to help educate parents about treatment options. Dr. Kathy Mitchell who practices with him is also terrific. We've used them for over 12 years now. We find them to be great with babies and wonderful with adolescents as well. A third in their practice, Dr. Slater, also comes highly recommended by an Abt colleague whose husband trained with him. (Vanguard takes patients who have Tufts, Harvard Pilgrim, most indemnity plans, and they're on some PPOs as well.) They're right next to the arsenal mall easy to get to from here or Belmont/Arlington. 9725575

***Dr McCarty at ABC Pediatrics DO NOT GO TO PATRIOT PEDIATRICS IN LEXINGTON

***Carole Allen of Pediatric Associates is great. She is located on Mill Street in Arlington. 781 6437155

***I visited both Dr. Allen's office and Dr. McCarty. (Dr. Allen had a nurse meet with me, Dr. McCarty met with me directly). Both offices seemed clean and well run. We chose Dr. McCarty. The office is very convenient (right at the intersection of Mass Ave and Alewife Brook Parkway in Arlington), they have evening and weekend hours. They have free parking. And Dr. McCarty seemed nice.

***My pediatrician Martha mcCarty is very good. And acturally all 3 pediatricians in the group are very good. It's in east Arlington, 29 Mass Ave, (781)6434507. Very close to Abt

*** Although I like my pediatrician very much (he is an excellent clinicial, and has been completely on top of things), he is a bit far in Cambridge, on Mt. Auburn St near Watertown by the Star Market. I have also heard very good things about ABC Pediatrics (??). There are three doctors who recently opened up their practice (I think within the past year). They originally worked at HCHP, and I hear that they have a great following. Plus, they are very convenient, which is very important when you have a sick child. They are on Mass Ave., in Arlington by the border with Cambridge. If you are going to do prenatal interviews, I would start there...

*** I LOVE our pediatrician: Dr. Kathleen Mitchell affiliated with Harvard Vanguard Watertown (located near Arsenal Mall). She is a mother of 3 herself and a very calm, skilled pro. *** Dr. Goldstein. The number is 5478100.

***I highly recommend Dr. Spanker in Arlington. He's a bit oldschool, but I think kids today are too coddled by their yuppy parents. In addition to his no nonsense medical services, he offers many helpful tips on disciplining your children. It's hard to find anyone nowadays who can discuss the merits of the paddle versus the strap with any authority. And when you have those late night earache episodes where the kid won't stop crying, he's happy to get on the phone and tell the littel bugger to stop the whimpering or he'll bring a strap over right now and give them something to really cry about. He definitely is not one to overprescribe antibiotics!

7/00 ARLINGTON

*** In addition to the responses below, I received one phone call saying excellent things about Dr. Meyer and Dr. Schofield at the Lahey Clinic (formerly Simms Hospital). So it seems there may be 3 excellent practices in Arlington as well as a good practice in Woburn...

Dr. McCarty at the Alewife Brook Community Practice is the pediatrician for both of my girls and I like her a lot. I think they have very good bedside manners. Any time during their work hour I can usually get doctor to speak to. You can usually schedule an appointment for a sick child almost right away, on the same day or the next day. The waiting times are 2030 mins, sometimes sooner than this. There are no separate waiting rooms.

*** Dr. Carole Allen is very good. She was very attentive to my son who, it seemed, was constantly sick the first year and a half. She seems to be well connected to Boston hospitals and some clinical trials which have offered excellent opportunities to my boys for the pneumococcal vaccine. Bedside manner is good. She is an experienced physician and is sensitive to ageappropriate responses like stranger anxiety. There are 23 other physicians in her office and they share oncall duties with another Cambridge doctor at night and on the weekends. Very responsive during nonoffice hours.

*** I can share with you information about my children's pediatrician, although it is not located in Arlington. They are Woburn Pediatrics (7819336236) in Baldwin Park off Route 128, opposite the Cinemas, next to Stop and Shop, and on Route 38. They are very good with children (gentle, talkative), very informative with the parents, have a sick waiting area as well as a well waiting area, open on Sunday mornings and holidays (I've tested both and it works). Woburn Pediatrics is located on the 2nd floor of an office building that has an xray facility on the 1st floor (again, I tested that and it, too, works well). They are affiliated with Winchester Hospital. I have referred 3 friends to them (one from Arlington) and they all like Woburn Pediatrics.
