Getting Started

Getting started in a prison ministry outreach is a bold start in the right direction. Just imagine how Jesus's disciples felt when He told them to go out and preach and teach with nothing more than a robe and sandals; God will provide and He will provide you with the right Words and direction to get your prison ministry going. You will have alot of questions come to mind, especially , "what am I going to do". First you will have to  decide on, which type of facility you want to visit and exactly what kind of ministry you want to present to the inmates. The PrisonNet Bible Study and lesson plans are well established and easy to follow. Start with the Curriculum and work your way through all the information to Finding a Church. This will take some time, but you will get an idea of how to setup lessons and curriculum. If you are blessed to have some musical talents, this will also help establish a plan and "break the ice" so to speak. Next you need to contact the prison facility you are interested in visiting. Ask for the Chaplain's name and phone number and when is the best time to call. When you call the Chaplain explain who you are and who you are affiliated with, tell him/her what you have planned and ask if you can come and meet with him in person to talk over prison rules and regulations, what is expected from you and what you can expect from the prison facility, and also ask about required paperwork and procedures to gain entance to the prison facility (please click the sample link below to see a sample document).
