COLUMNS

Sudan: Genocide in Darfur

By Arvind Ramesh

From the eyes of the average American, who gets their news from CNN and Fox, the only problems in the world seem to happen in Iraq, where soldiers face the tangibility of death daily, the place where the bad guy Saddam ruled his country through torture and with an iron fist.  Everything else is fine, right?  We’ve freed the Shiites and the Kurds from gassing, and now everything in the world is fine and we can go back to being in our small bubble.  It’s a shame stuff happens other places…( Continues Here)

Kerry vs. Bush, We Don’t Have Anyone Better?

May 13, 2004

By Tim Brass

Most American’s don’t like Bush, and don’t want him to become President for another term.  This is apparent from his dwindling approval rating, which continues to shrink in the face of sexual abuse and torture charges by the military in Iraq.  However, many moderates, and few people that would consider themselves or are considered “right wing” see little choice…( Continues Here)

Getting Rid of Rumsfeld Doesn’t Really Solve the Problem

By Joshua Robin

This week everyone has been clamoring for the resignation or the firing of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.  This criticism is pretty understandable, being that he is the Defense Secretary he is responsible for the actions of the United States arm forces.  In doing I would say people want to both hold people responsible and, “deal with the problem.”  Getting rid of Rumsfeld would in no way deal with the problem…( Continue Here)

WHAT DOES THIS SITE SET OUT TO DO?

America is believed by many to be the foremost Democracy in the world.  However, in the 2000 Presidential election only 51.3 percent of the population exercised their right to vote.  Roughly 32% of the population of 18-24 year olds voted in the 1996 Presidential election based on Federal Election Commission statistics.  These numbers are significantly lower than those numbers of other industrialized democracies.  Something needs to be done about these facts.

This website sets out to be a forum for young people especially those younger than voting age (High Schoolers) to get involved in our political process and begin to effect the outcome not only now but also as we get older.  This website will seek to achieve these outcomes by:

-Providing links to many news and politics related web sites across the broad political spectrum.

-Providing a brief summary of the daily news along with some interesting daily stories (DAILY NEWS BLOG).

-Providing ideas and opportunities for young people to become active in the political process.

***Providing a forum for the discussion of these issues (MESSAGE BOARD).
