Ralph and Hetty were married for over 36 years, until her death on 28 March 1975. About a year later, Ralph married Gladys Kuykendall Brown. Ralph and Gladys had actually been engaged while they were in college at Southwestern in the late 1920s. For some reason they had gone their separate ways with Gladys marrying Tom Brown and Ralph marrying Hetty. Tom died in about 1964 and Gladys had remained single until she married Ralph.
