My Lady Night

Flower, colored bright,
I am strong, I can fight,
tell me it will never fade,
and I'll go forth unafraid,
from my favorite spot on rusting fire escape.
Wildflower growing in all
the wrong places.
My growing pains
have many rooms.
I walk through the woods
and holler
the song birds laugh and play
the rivers drunk with mirth.
If I were a desert flower, all winter long
I would pain and cower.
In the spring I would blossom and remember
a song so beautiful and pure.
I seek beyond these walls,
it's the sunlight in the skies
with the breaking of dawn
there's an endless stretch of blue reaching out
turning into a vision of the future,
strong and proud.
My lady night,
my mind is clear.
I've paid my share of blackness,
If I were a joyful songbird
all winter long
so cold and somber,
Spring would make me sing.
Unbeknownst something is
pulling at my head,
pulling at my heart,
If I could fly would I fly now?
Are my wings strong enough
to bear the winds out there?
Tower, brick and stone,
make my way on my own.
My lady night calls,
but I am heading for the dawn,
and she can no longer keep me here.
