HAWK VOICE ACTOR: Ed Gilbert ALLEGIANCE: G.I.Joe ASSIGNMENT: Commander-in Chief 1ST APPEARANCE: ARISE, SERPENTOR, ARISE HAWK is the top most man in charge of the Joe team. His whereabouts during the team's formative years are unknown, though it has been said that he was working in secret with the Joint Chiefs in Washington DC. HAWK took an active role in the team around the time that Cobra launched a sneak attack. The Joes barely won the day so HAWK commsioned SERGEANT SLAUGHTER to shape up the team. The training paid off because Cobra then embarked on their scheme to create a ruler with the DNA of history's greatest conquerors. HAWK led the team in a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to stop Cobra. The resulting leader, SERPENTOR, besieged Washington DC. HAWK led the team in retaking Washington. HAWK'S old friend, Admiral George Latimer, was due to retire. Latimer was upset that his ship, the Montana, was going to be scrap. He allowed Cobra to recruit him and take the ship. HAWK chased after him and boarded the ship with a force of Joes. Latimer took back his hatred of his fellow officers and aided HAWK in disarming a super weapon DESTRO placed onboard. Unfortunately, it was too late to stop a fleet from sinking the ship. HAWK saved Latimer from going down with the ship. HAWK went away on assignment when Cobra arranged for three unworthy Joes to the rank of colonel. HAWK was relayed a secret transmission about the plot and he arrived in time to stop a full scale Cobra attack. When DR MINDBENDER used a machine to induce nightmares, HAWK had to confront his fear of sending people to their death. He finally got over it. His insecurities briefly resurfaced when MINDBENDER created a machine to manipulate emotions but HAWK recovered. During the Joes battle with COBRA-LA, HAWK grew enraged when FALCON left his post, thus allowing SERPENTOR to escape. He tried have FALCON court-martialed, but DUKE convinced him to send him to the SLAUGHTERHOUSE instead. HAWK later led the air defense when Cobra went after the BET. Cobra was successful and HAWK led a massive force to get it back. Unfortunely, all where snared by the Carno Tree. However, HAWK and the others were soon freed by FALCON and some other Joes. HAWK then led the Joes in fighting the strange forces of COBRA-LA and was one of the only people to make it to the palace. He stayed at the entrance while FALCON, JINX, and SERGEANT SLAUGHTER stopped Cobra's plan to mutate the world. He then led his troops in retreating from the exploding kingdom and celebrated with them when the battle ended. (Note: HAWK has blond hair in the comics and has led the Joes since issue one.
