This company was established in 1889, and in 1918 it became part of Zeleznice Srba, Hrvata i Slovenca (Railways of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes), which was later renamed Jugoslovenske Drzavne Zeleznice (Yugoslav State Railways).
By 1900 the mainlin ran from Beograd to Nis, where the line split in two, with one line running to Zaribrod (today Dragoman) on the Bulgarian border and the other going to Vranje on the Ottoman border. In 1912 the line Paracin-Stalac-Uzice was completed.
