Remember the "olden days" of the 1960s and early 1970s when all the ladies from the neighborhood -- none of whom worked, naturally -- gathered over coffee to laugh & gossip?

Where I grew up, my mom & all the neighbor ladies met every Monday morning, ostensibly to drink coffee and enjoy "grown-up conversation."  However, these women -- intelligent, creative,  and very funny -- exchanged a lot more than gossip.  They exchanged  ideas, values, information, support, insights, and -- yes -- wisdom.

As an adult, I have come to realize that this wasn't just an isolated thing.  In every neighborhood, in every community, women were, in this seemingly casual way, forming networks of information & support that served as the foundation of  local families, schools & communities.

Alas, I will never belong to a "coffee clatch." The women in my community are still making a difference, but in much more high-profile ways: as businesswomen, politicians & activists.  Our neighborhoods are too transient.  And who has time to linger over a cup of coffee?  Our local Starbucks just installed a drive-through lane.

This website is my attempt to share the info that I would have enjoyed sharing with like-minded ladies, had I lived my mother's life, in my mother's time, in my mother's world.

Reflecting the author & the times, this topics covered here are SERIOUSLY eclectic - I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I'm certainly enjoying trying everything once in the process of deciding!

However, everything here is created by ME and I retain the copyright thereto.  Feel free to use whatever you want as long as you don't represent it as your own & don't make a profit off it.

It's just us ladies here, right? We den mothers, PTA officers, book group members, community activists, career-minded professionals, doting mothers, dutiful daughters, loving spouses, etc. -- still looking for fellowship & support & ways to make a difference in our own lives, the lives of our families, and the lives of our communities.

So go pour yourself a cup of java and join me.  And if you have anything to add, glad to hear from you!  Just leave me a message in the guestbook.
