THE SECRET OF AMERICA'S FREEDOM ! |
![]() |
Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love and reverence toward Almighty God...What a Utopia, what a Paradise would this region be. (John Adams) Alexis De Tocqueville a famous French statesman Traveled to America in the 1830’s to discover the reasons for the incredible success of this new nation. I sought for the key to the greatness and genius of America in her harbors...; in her fertile fields and boundless forests; in her rich mines and vast world commerce; in her public school system and institutions of learning. I sought it in her democratic Congress and in her matchless Constitution. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. The safeguard of morality is religion, and morality is the best security of law as well as the surest pledge of freedom. The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds, that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other. Christianity is the companion of liberty in all its conflicts-the cradle of its infancy, and the divine source of its claims. (Alexis De Toqueville) The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. (Noah Webster) If the power of the Gospel is not felt through the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end. (Daniel Webster) To Americans America is something more than a promise and an expectation. It has a past and tradition of its own. A descent from men who sacrificed everything and came hither, not to better their fortunes, but to plant their idea in virgin soil, should be a good pedigree. There was never a colony save this that went forth, not to seek gold, but God. (James Russell Lowell) A trip to France will make you adore your own country, it’s soil, it’s climate, it’s equality, liberty, laws, people and manners. My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy. The whole art of government consists in the art of being honest. (Thomas Jefferson) America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. (Abraham Lincoln) A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage. (Sir Alex Fraser Tytler) (1742-1813) Scottish jurist and historian It must be felt that there is no national security but in the nation's humble acknowledged dependence upon God and His overruling providence. (John Adams) It is impossible to mentally or socially enslave a Bible reading people. The principles of the Bible are the groundwork of human freedom." (Horace Greeley) It is necessary for the welfare of the nation that men's lives be based on the principles of the Bible. No man, educated or uneducated, can afford to be ignorant of the Bible. (Theodore Roosevelt) When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary. (Thomas Paine) The future of our country depends upon the Christian training of our youth. (George Washington) So great is my veneration for the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it, the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens to their country and respectable members of society. (John Quincy Adams) Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good citizens (Daniel Webster) They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety. (Benjamin Franklin) Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. (William Pitt) Liberty has never come from the government; it has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it. (Woodrow Wilson) The high office of President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the Americans freedom, and before I leave office I must inform the citizen of his plight. (John Fitzgerald Kennedy) (Columbia University, 10 days before his assassination) |
Now I sit me down in school where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, it violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the state. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks. They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles. But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, no word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen |
