Current and Voltage readings through a 1N4148 Diode

Voltage and Current measurements in a 1N4148 Diode

The Assignment:

Measure the current flowing through a 1N4148 diode as a function of the voltage across it. Do not exceed 100 mA, since greater current will certainly damage the diode. Extend your measurements to as small currents as you can. Present a diagram showing your measurement circuit, possibly in several variations. Present your data both as a graph and also as a table in text form (.txt extension) linked to your web page.

The Setup:

The following circuit was constructed and data was recorded directly into an Excel spreadsheet. The diagram depicts the diode in a forward biased orientation, however, the diode was also tested with a reverse bias. In the reverse case, the diode symbol would simply be flipped around 180 deg.

Pre Experiment Observations:

Laboratory power supply was incapable of supplying voltages below 10mV and the Ammeter seemed to float at 0.0001 mA regardless of lead connections.
