| Album: [i] Singer: Karen Mok Record Label: Sony Music Release Date: 18th April 2002 |
| This, being Karen Mok's first offering from her new record company, boasts a strong production team. What can you imagine, 5 hunks working around the sexy lass. T.C Liu, Jamie Hsueh Zhongming [Jeff Chang's common producer], Wang Zhiping, Peter Li Sisong and Wang Lee-Hom. The album opens with the hip "I Will Be Fine", which displays her sexy low-range vocals. Sony's favourite lyricist, Li Zhuoxiong's lyrics here alternate between English and Mandarin. One thing to note though, Li Zhuoxiong took part in 7 out of the 10 songs here in this album. The ballads here takes a number of listens before it hooks onto you. Both the radio hits "Single Room Double Bed" and "Love", produced by Peter Li, are songs that cling and hold onto you. "Na Ke Bu Yi Ding" comes across to me as cute, yet tastefully recorded. Wang Lee-Hom covered the melody, backgrounds, rap and production specially for Karen, making it one of the must-listen tracks of the album. My favourite track should go to "If You Were Li Bai". Lin Xi tastefully did the lyrics to this song with the clever inclusion of the Cantonese version of Li Bai's famed "Chuang qian ming yue guang..." poem. The arrangements create a slight air of mystery despite the strong beats. The album comes to a quiet close with an English cover "Close To You", with brand new arrangements and a different interpretation.
