Sunday was a cold day, and even though waiting outside for 5 and a half hours wasn't the most pleasant experience, it was definitely worth it. We (Nat, Jenn, Shannon and Crystal) were the first ones in line and met Adam and Mark right away. We saw Adam walking around for awhile, and eventually decided to call him over. He approached us and pointed at my shirt, and I just sort of sat there in awe. He talked to us for a bit and walked away. I felt pretty stupid for not asking for a picture or at least his autograph, but later got the chance to when Crystal called him over again.
Mark came over to us a bit later and gave us all high-fives. He had his hair cut the previous day and asked if it made him look like a jock, and I told him it did, but just a bit. The girls that showed up after us came up to him and asked who he was, and he was like "You don't even know who I am?! These girls do!" and pointed to us. *beams* He was really, really nice. It's sad that I forgot to get him to sign my cd booklet.
John, Shaun and Eddie got back from Loblaw's once a lot more people showed up. I felt bad that they were being mobbed by so many people, but that, of course, did not stop me from going up to them and saying hi. They, too, were super nice and Crystal was nice enough to take pictures of me with each of them.
A bunch of friends showed up before doors, and I let them all bud in with us. Getting there at 1 gave me the right to do anything I wanted. *sticks out tongue* So doors opened, and I ran and got my merch. $105 later, and I had in my posession a t-shirt, 3/4 sleeve shirt, sweater, a sticker, 5 buttons and a belt. I'm a geek for not getting a poster, but meh. I shoved everything in my bag and went into the "concert area" where Crystal had reserved a spot for me on the gates somewhere between center and right stage (Damn John for ending up on the other side. *shakes fist*). Crystal did a good job at calming my fears of dying up there.
Somehow Hollow were on first, and I didn't like them very much. At this point, I had become buddies with Phil, the security guard in front of me. He promised to protect me and told me and Crystal that he'd try his best to get us a setlist. A roadie ended up giving away all the setlists at the end of the show, so no luck for us, but that's ok.
Recover put on a really great set despite the fact that I couldn't really get into their music. Adam sang during one of their songs, and made me a very happy girl. It sort of reminded me of the Seventy Times Seven video I had on my computer awhile back, where John ends up playing guitar, and Adam takes a mic and sings along with Jesse. I want that video back right now. During their set, a crowdsurfer straddled my neck and dropped my head down to the barricades when I bit my lip really hard and thought that I had broken my teeth . One of the most painful things I've felt in a long time, but I was determined to keep my spot.
From Autumn to Ashes put on an amazing performance. Their energy was incredible, and the crowd seemed really into it. The crushage was minor leaving me very hopeful for Taking Back Sunday's set.
After about a half hour, two girls who I had recognized from outside took to the stage to announce the band. I could barely contain my excitement. Apparently, no one else could either because the crushage began right away. They opened with Bike Scene, and I felt nothing but complete elation. Within the first 30 seconds, though, crowdsurfers started coming and didn't stop till the very end of the set. It wasn't painful (with the exception of a few), but it was so annoying that I had to focus on protecting my head rather than on their set. I did, however, manage to watch most of it, and even had the mic passed over to me and the guy beside me during Cute Without the E.
They played everything off of Tell All Your Friends minus Head Club, 3 new songs (which are amazing; I can't wait for the new cd), and The Ballad of Sal Villanueava and Your Own Disaster (gah!!!). I went insane the entire time and experienced total bliss. Since I've seen every video in existence, I knew what to expect from their performance, but never could have anticipated how amazing it made me feel. They closed with You Know How I Do, and I became overwhelmed with sadness. I wish their set lasted 3 days. It's only another 4 months before I see them again, but for a fan as obsessive as I am, that's just too long.
