Editorial
While the government is performing a well staged quarrel within the coalition to distract people’s masses with unimportant issues the federal army is defending the interests of Austrian imperialism not only in Bosnia and Kosovo. Since February Austrian troops have been active also in Tchad and since September in West Africa. We bring background reports about the Tchad mission and about the alleged independence of Kosovo under imperialist patronage. Moreover a leaflet by Partija Rada (Party of Labour) that we translated and have been distributing in a bilingual version among migrants from former Yugoslavia.
Referring to the international day of struggle of toiling women on 8th March, on top of this issue of Proletarian Revolution no. 31 you find an article outlining our positions on various trends within women’s movement with quotations from some of our programmatic “Theses on Women’s Liberation”. The title picture is by John Heartfield who anglicised his German name (Herzfelde) in protest against German chauvinism during World War I.
As a conclusion of our last year’s focal point “October Revolution” that we have also celebrated with a special issue of PR (29a) we bring an article about the effects of this outstanding event on the whole last century as well as an international declaration on the current importance of October Revolution.
The resonance of October Revolution in Austria led to the January strike of 1918; we reprint our leaflet. Also the foundation of the German KPD was in some sense a result of the October Revolution – read our leaflet we distributed in Berlin at the Luxemburg-Liebknecht-Lenin demonstration in January. On occasion of the 70th anniversary of Nazi aggression against Austria we document our leaflet throwing light on the responsibility for and the interest of the ruling class in Austria in the Nazi fascists seizing power in Austria.
In the Philippines huge demonstrations with up to 75,000 participants have been organised weekly since the middle of February. Their aim is the overthrow of the currupt Arroyo regime, and the influence of revolutionary people’s mass organisations is steadily increasing. We bring extracts from “Ang Bayan” , organ of the CP Philippines on the political situation.
In Nepal the CP Nepal (Maoist) has clearly expressed that their manifesto for the elections to the Constituent Assembly in April is at the same time the programme for their struggle for changing the semi-feudal Nepales society. Should the reactionary parties disturb the next steps in installing the Democratic Federative Republic that was already proclaimed in December then the republican democratic transformation must again be advanced by armed struggle in the country and people’s revolts in the cities. For deeper information we bring several extracts from articles by leading comrades of the CPN(M) in “Red Star”.
The history and background of the latest developments in Pakistan is explained in a composition by the “Council for Defending the Struggle of Iranian Peoples” in Vienna (Rat zur Unterstützung des Kampfs der iranischen Völker). We also print the oral contributions of a panel discussion on “Iran and the danger of war” organised in Vienna in December 2007.
In critcizing the alleged humanitarian aid campaigns we re-publish an article from the Salzburg migrant paper “Talk Together”.
125 years ago Karl Marx died. Another classic, the poet Peter Hacks, would have celebrated his 80th birthday in March. Therefore we bring a text on art and religion written by him.
In the middle of this issue you will again, as always, find the next part of the History of the Austrian working class movement in Turkish language for tearing out.
You will also find a long text on our experiences of revolutionary communist party building work in Austria in the last years. This text was produced by order of our 7th Conference (2007) and in it we deal with certain issues of party building in an imperialist country that are probably of wider and more general interest for the revolutionary public as we are going further than to the level of concrete and recent developments in our organisation. (!!! This text is also available as a brochure in English or to be found at: !!!)
At the same time we are glad to be able to publish the founding declaration of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Union (RKJV) that we are linked with in a close solidarity in struggle.
Finally we again want to point out that since 2008 our leaflets have no longer been mailed in free subscription. But we reprint them regularly in the Proletarian Revolution and ask for payment of an amount that covers at least the postage of PR (Austria € 10.- or abroad € 20.-).
