Editorial
Many people wear the picture of a now 80-year-old person - without knowing what this comrade then fought for and against (see front page!). Therefore we bring a text, the last he wrote before being murdered. We also want to remind of a second jubilee: Karl Marx has his 190th birthday anniversary this year. Both persons were children of their times – that’s logic but nevertheless we want to stress it because for us it’s not a question of worshipping icons and adoring persons but we honour these persons as excellent revolutionaries and representatives of scientific communism in theory and practice. (And also here we do not want to get involved in a discussion about classics but rather advise to study both of them.) The First of May is over. As an epilogue and documentation we bring declarations of various groups and parties for this year’s international day of struggle in this issue of Proletarian Revolution no. 32. Our declaration is also reprinted here.
In April in Vienna many thousands of people marched in the streets again and again in protest against government and parliament. There the EU treaty was passed – as usual, without respect to the will and opinion of the voters. We took part in the demonstration marches of the more progressive forces against the EU constitution, pardon! ... EU treaty, and also distributed thousands of our flyers calling to smash EU and fight for socialism as the only real alternative among the demonstrators that were mobilized by Kronenzeitung etc. (Annotation: Kronenzeitung is the most popular tabloid in Austria)
When the imperialist propaganda for cutting up China started we promptly reacted with various stickers against clerico-fascism and the return of the Middle Ages in Tibet and distributed our declaration that is also reprinted in this issue.
The Maoists in Nepal have won in the elections. We don’t have the feelng that they are indulging in illusions in bourgeois elections. But we are sure that the abolition of monarchy is a big step forward in Nepal. Now it’s time to advance the new democratic revolution and carry out such reforms that lead to fundamental improvements for the Nepalese workers and peasants.
There was a series of very interesting public discussion meetings of the “Action committee against an attack on Iran” in Vienna. The comrades from Iran now have presented a draft platform for an Anti War Alliance that we document and submit for discussion.
This issue of PR is introduced by an article on the “History of the Communist Party of Soviet Union (Bolsheviks) – Short Course”that was first published 70 years ago and has been a text for Bolshevik training for many generations of Communists. We want to honour the outstanding importance of this work and, for current reason, quote from it some fundamental issues of party building.
Our leaflet for this year’s celebration of the liberation of Mauthausen concentration camp is dedicated to the anti-fascist partisans, those valiant fighters resisting fascism with arms in their hands.
On occasion of the foundation of the Revolutionary Communist Youth Union (RKJV) a youth organisation close to us we did not only publish an IA.RKP leaflet for young people but in this issue we also bring the founding declaration of RKJV as well as a report from young comrades who participated in a nurses’ demonstration in Vienna and distributed their special leaflet there.
We bring a report on the latest development in Tchad where shortly after the attacks of the oppositional forces on the capital city an Austrian officer took over the command for the EUFOR special units. Referring to India we translated extracts of an account of CP India (Maoist) on their experiences we found in Worker no. 11 the organ of CP Nepal (Maoist).
Besides the continuing series on the history of the Austrian working class movement in Turkish we also bring in this issue part 1 of a short summary of the history of the working class movement that we have especially designed as an introduction for migrants.
As always, we are looking forward to receiving positive and also critical contributions from our readers and hope that you can use one or the other article of this issue for your practical intervention in class struggle, too.
Yours
Editorial collective
