Josephine Baker was a popular singer and dancer in the 1920s (when the majority of the movie took place). She first won her fame in New York City, and she later moved to Paris in the mid-1920s. She helped introduce Europeans into African American music and dance. Josephine Baker actually makes a cameo appearance in Anastasia during "Paris Holds the Key".
