Ah, Food, Drink, Man, Woman... Joy of life
(oh why, o why the bloody pink dots)
A while back, I created a list of local places for a good friend of

mine, Sean                        to get some food (and let him

know of places to avoid) around the local area of where he and I lived - around Potts Point in Sydney.  The band-aid on him resulted from a roller-blading incident, but that's another story.
The document has since infamously been known as the
SLAGuide.  Since then some places have come and gone, and I have updated it for all to share.
Please enjoy.

Sean’s Local Area Guide (SLAG) – Volume 2 Food Places © 2001

1

Spring

Illy coffee served here – current status unknown.  Walter got into strife with the Illy gestapo for mixing the beans.

Every item on the menu is unique and excellent, but without a price to match.  Check the muzak from the B&O that costs more than the fit-out.

2

La Bavette

French café with non-French décor

Cicada

Gone.  Was a puncy place perfect for the Range Rover set, with competent modern Australian food.

3

Morans (not current name)

Patronise the café on the side, not the restaurant.  The food standard is identical, but the prices are not.

4

Paramount

One of the better restaurants in Sydney.  Modern Australian again, celebrity chef etc.

5

Arun Thai

Though the food is good, avoid this place for the rip-off tourist prices.

Pig and the Olive

Good place if you want to pick up more than just pizza!

6

Potts Point Pizza

Competent pizzas here for a quickie.

7

Bourbon & Beefsteak

A reputed Sydney Icon that I would not eat in.

8

Mezzaluna

Understated staple of the Sydney Italian scene.  Nice view also.

K

-

Various Korean places good for Korean Barbecue.  Need to wash clothes afterwards and not go on a date.

10

Lime & Lemongrass

Good Thai at above average prices, place sort of for Anglos who can’t stand genuine laminex table tops.  The front of the restaurant is in a sandstone dining room.

11

Zanzibar

If you don’t care much and want a casual meal.  Under $10.

12

Darley Street Thai

Gone gone gone – thank god for that.  If Arun Thai is a rip-off, this one took the Fish cake.

13

Bayswater Brasserie

Over rated but competent.

15

?

Glass house good for breakfast and nothing else.

16

Tropicana

Full of wankers who confuse lack of class with style.

17

Backdoor

At night time, purely for fashion victims; swat flies in day time.

18

Le Petite Crème

Bottom floor of a terrace with French pretensions.

19

Parmalat

French insinuations, but trendy enough.

20

Morgans

Mmm.  A classic of its time. *****

21

Coluzzi

Simple Italian café, another supposed icon with laminex tables that I have not been, with the occasional Lamborghini parked out front.

22

Onde

Very competent Modern Australian.

23

Bills

Reputedly very friendly – though I find it a snotty pretentious place.

24

Fez

Moroccan influences.

25

Fish Face

Creative fish and chips

26

Ash’s

Minimalist décor, acceptable food.  Watch the traffic scream down New South Head road.
