Day 8 - Heading home
Now on the plane somewhere over Spain and heading north. Up at  3:00 this morning, slept for a while on the coach and woke up in the High Atlas as the sun rose. The snow has gone now, except for on the highest peaks and the road is clear. Spectacular views as we drop into the much greener scenery west of the mountains, and the airport at Marrakech.
Everyone has put in a great effort and reached the end, even if it meant hobbling along on sticks for the last couple of days. I don't think anyone could call it a holiday, but it's been a fantastic experience and something I am proud to have been able to play a part in. The final total raised wont be finalised for a couple of months, donations are still coming in, but it should be around £150,000.
As for my condition, surprisingly good. Tired but feeling fitter and about 3Kg lighter. A couple of small blisters but nothing that's a problem. I'm still coughing and blowing blood out of my nose but that will wear off, it's just the effect of breathing the hot sandy air.
The question now is what do I do next?
Final thoughts.
A few months have passed since the trek and the sunburn has faded, but the memories never will. The group raised well over £200,000 and it's a great thing to have played a part in. I was one of those who did the walk but there were a lot of other people involved in the fund raising and organisation and they all deserve as much credit.
Before I set off for the Sahara someone said to me that this type of thing could be a "life changing experience", at the time I thought that was a bit over the top but I'm not so sure now. Everyone had their reasons for being in the desert and I know it has changed the way I look at things...
