SAMPLE COVER LETTER

I am interested in exploring the challenging opportunity presented in this assignment, and I submit the enclosed resume for your consideration.

During the last nine years in the Accounts Section of the Financial Services Branch of the Ministry of Finance, I have been assigned progressively more responsible duties. Most recently I have been entering payments on the CAS Walker system, and auditing the payments as per the Financial Administration Act. I use the Ministry Intranet to research the policies and procedures applicable under the Act. I have extensive experience with accounting procedures within government and have completed an accounting course at Camosun College.

I communicate effectively with both internal and external clients, by telephone, electronic mail, and in person. I excel at customer service and have experience with public speaking, including presenting seminars. I have taken courses in communication skills and customer service.

Our office works with IBM based computers and supports Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets. I am also familiar with several of the mainframe accounting systems used by Government, including CAS, FMIS, and TSO. I have used computers in an office environment for several years and have never had trouble learning a new system when called upon to do so.

I am enrolled in the Computer Based Information Systems program and have completed six courses to date. I am continuing my studies using the Distance Education option in the program. Upon completion of the program, I hope to qualify for an entry-level systems analyst position.

I recommend contacting either my supervisor, Heather Mulcaster-Law (356-1785), or Colleen Venables, my manager (356-1764), for a reference.

I will be happy to meet with you to further discuss how my qualifications may benefit your office. I can be contacted by electronic mail at wj684@victoria.tc.ca, should you have any questions to ask of me.

Sincerely,

Ian Campbell
