“Where is the School Going?” “Honoring the past. Building the future”. Such a remarkable theme to celebrate All Saints Mission Elementary School’s one hundred years of existence. One printing on a souvenir shirt goes:” One hundred years of Excellence”. Is it really a hundred years of excellence? Every alumni homecoming is a venue to reminisce the good old days. Cherishing the times shared with teachers, classmates, girlfriends, boyfriends, rekindling old flames, measuring how much weight one has gained and lost and how old and gray many have become, and; how far the school has gone. Among the activities slated for the ASMES Alumni Association was an alumni meeting with the participation of invited guests. The meeting was participated in by 50 members, majority of which came from the alumni. Florence N. Taguiba, ASMESAA President facilitated the meeting which resulted to two action items that were agreed by the body. First, a letter to the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines, Rt. Rev. Eward Malecdan was drafted and was signed by the alumni. The letter appealed for an audience with the Bishop to discuss the plans of the Diocese for the school. It shall be recalled that ASM being a mission school of the Anglican Church has been subsidized by the Diocese since the beginning of its operation. Second, the body approved the motion to create a planning committee headed by Fr. Brent Mosomos of Class 1972. The said Committee will lead the conduct of a visioning process that will lead to the drafting of a comprehensive development plan for the school which at the moment is missing. These action items resulted after the participants to the meeting aired their concerns regarding the school’s obvious signs of decline. Dr. Kate Chollipas-Botengan, alumna, remarked, “This was the same stage 50 yeasts ago and I feel sad to see the same” referring to the stage inside the school building which was never refurbished. Likewise, Mrs. Sofia Bacwaden, former school principal commented ion the school’s walls and ceilings that were not painted and the rooms that lacked decorations. Amidst the hustle and bustle during the centennial celebration, the Alumni are united in echoing that ASM must survive to play its unique role within the demands of a 21st century school. by: Soraya T. December 2006
To the members of the ASMES Community, Greetings of Peace! During the Centennial Celebrations of the All Saints’ Mission Elementary School in Bontoc, Mountain Province last 30 October 2006, one of the things raised by the alumni, parents, teachers, the clergy and other stakeholders was the need for a development program for ASMES. You may be aware that the ASMES has a Mission statement. But this has not yet been translated into an action program that will ensure the School’s survival and sustained growth in an environment that has become competitive and global. Continued inaction can only lead to the School’s continued slide to irrelevance and possible demise. Thus, we need to know how everyone feels about this proposal and what each of us can do to help. Without doubt, the ASMES has played an important part in shaping our lives through the values and lessons it imparted. Now is the time for us to help ASM become relevant to the needs of a rapidly changing environment. This questionnaire therefore hopes to generate the ideas needed to start this transformation process. We hope you can respond to the questions—most of which are open-ended, as thoroughly as possible. With your responses, we can all be properly guided in the crafting of the ASMES Strategic Development Framework Plan for the next five years. Thank you and God bless us all!
