Our vacation plan was to ride our bikes down the east coast of Florida but our plans changed due to Hurricane Ophelia sitting off Daytona Beach refusing to move. Our last minute decision was to reverse our plan and go down the gulf coast. The most challenging episode of the whole trip was crossing the Skyway Bridge at St. Petersburg, Fl. Our airboat tour in the Everglades was very enjoyable. We have provided a link in case anyone would be interested in an airboat tour. We higly recommend using Totch's Airboat Tours. The next pictures show the trip taking us through the Florida Keys all the way down to Key West and back up the east coast making our round trip of 2,766 miles in 11 enjoyable days. We left Key West 3 days before Hurricane Rita made landfall.
Sherry is gazing across the Tampa Bay at a hugh bridge saying, "I am sure glad I don't have to cross that thing."
She was shocked when after a few miles, we turned several loops and the road in front of us revealed the dreaded bridge. This bridge has a caution light which read, "High wind. Danger when flashing."
This pic shows another airboat tour being given by another company -- they all share the same waters.
The alligator in the water is a 13-footer.
This is our tour guide and his assistant. To see a short video clip of our airboat ride and an awesome 360 degree backward loop in an airboat, go to our video page link above or click here: AIRBOAT CLIP
Our tour guide gave a lot of facts and history of the Everglades and wildlife. Sherry really enjoyed her lesson of alligator wrestling!
