Our dog Jesse,
an 11 month old Bichon, is one of the dogs that is recovering well from
IBD on no conventional meds, home cooked (not raw) and a homeopathic liver
de-tox.
To be clear, she was diagnosed via endoscopic biopsy with severe marked
lymph and plasma cell IBD in her stomach; the G.I. vet proscribed Hill's
z/d and 10 mg/day pred.; we didn't do that. Under these circumstances,
Monica Segal (doggie dietician) suggested we get a holistic vet and
mentioned in passing that TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) usually
suggests a liver de-tox.

I have to admit, the homeopathic remedy is
being administered out of respect for the holistic vet; at the super
diluted levels homeopathy uses, I fail to see any scientific
justification, but if it works...
My holistic vet, who uses dark field microscopic live blood analysis, is
doing an informal study of his Barf clients, and has a some questions
about Barf's validity (I won't steal his thunder, but he is giving me a
balanced view of the Barf method).
I think it's informative to note that his
interpretation of Jesse's pathology (right word?) goes like this:
Since Jesse's symptoms started with yellow
bile vomit at 4am (you could set your watch), her body was trying to void
itself of the toxins in her liver by pushing the bile into her tummy so
she could throw it up. The liver remained toxified. Since yellow bile in
the stomach is so harmful, the tummy IBD was caused. We are de-toxing the
liver and are seeing allergenic responses
(biting feet, licking anus etc.) as the process goes on.
The holistic vet agrees with mainstream vet
theory on IBD's mechanism; he removed all protein for the first week and
started 10% whitefish (it's the most bland animal protein) to be sure the
IBD cells wouldn't respond.
