Welcome Fellow Hikers, Henderson, Nevada has seen its community growing larger each day. Housing development extend into areas that were once desert wilderness. Land developers scrape and sculture the rocky volcanic terrain for the new families that come through out the nation. Traffic tie ups comes with congestion of large communities stressing the urbanites to their limits. Take the time to break away from all the termoil of the 20th century. Hiking adventures are wainting for your exploration only a few minutes away from Las Vegas / Henderson. 2005 has arrived To me time is rushing past me. I only wish I can squeeze enough kodak moments in my life time. I had a great time hiking in 2004. I'm greatful for the opportunity of hooking up with a group of hikers that enjoy the adventure of trekking out to some distant points in Nevada. What has the future in store for me in my hiking journey. Will I venture out into the wilderness to be suddenly be struck with a epiphany. Maybe a bright light will appear, or the sky will darken to mark the time of my epiphany. You never know what is going to happen... so always be prepared. Plan your hikes. Research your point of interest. Chart out a route on a map for your reference and to show your planned hike to others. First Aid kit, snake bit kit, should be in you day pack. Cell Phones, 2-way radios are some important items to have available. GPS and a compass works great with a map of the area. Record at least one waypoint (location of where the car is located), Knowing where you are at, but not knowing where the car is located can make it frustrating at the end of a hike. Check the weather before your hike. Dress according to the weather conditions. Bring some food and a large quantity of water. Watch out for sun stroke.... hydrate., find shade (if that is possible).. If you travel out to distant trailheads, are you prepared for mechanical breakdown? Have additional water in your vehicle. If you do break down in a remote area, you might want to think about seeking shade, and hike out during the evening. |
