“In each passing century there are a few defining moments of which it can truly be said: ‘Here history was made”. One such moment happened in the last century, when the Union Jack emblazoned with the star of India, began its final journey down the flagstaff of Viceroy’s house, New Delhi. The last retreat of that proud banner proclaimed the end of British Raj, end of an empire on which the sun was never to set. India got its independence just seconds after the midnight of 14-15 August 1947.”

On Aug 15, 2004, India will be celebrating her 58th independence day. It is also a day when we remember and pay respect to our leaders who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Above all, it’s a day to celebrate our country’s greatness.

Boise Indian community has been organizing wonderful cultural events on the eve of Diwali festival for the past few years. Last year, we all came together to celebrate our Republic day (Jan 26, 2003). Thanks to the local talents, we had an excellent program that portrayed our rich culture to the Boise community. The event was well received by the audience and the overwhelming response helped us to share the proceeds among three non-profit organizations.

This year, we are organizing a cultural event on Aug 14th 2004 (Saturday) to celebrate our 58th Independence Day on the 15th of August. As we celebrate the event on August 14th evening, our folks back home will be honoring the tri colored flag flying high. This event is our way of bringing festive mood to Boise and also shares our rich culture to the local community.

We request the community to once again come together and support this event. While participating and organizing such event is fun and provides us with an opportunity to showcase our talents, it also serves a noble cause. Like last year, the proceeds from this event will be donated to non-profit organizations, including AID-Boise, Idaho Food Bank, and a Boise School. We thank all Boise residents for your continued support in making this event a success.
