How To Make Buddy Icons

Welcome to PyroPrincess’s icon making tutorial. With this, you should be able make your icons in no time. If you don’t think you can do it with Paint, you should get Paintshop Pro because it is easier to work with, however it can cost anywhere from $60-$150. The Paint method is harder, but it’s also cheaper.

Part 1
To begin, open up Paint...Simple enough.

Part 2
Now we have to resize this screen...it’s one of the most confusing, but we can do it. Move to the right of the white part as far as u can go & then click outside the white part & onto the extra part surrounding it. In this picture, it’s green, but your computer’s coloring may be different. ...clicking here will cause little boxes to show up around the corners of the white part. (You can see one in the top right corner of the last picture.) It’s easiest if you click and hold the bottom right-hand box and shrink it. Make sure you pay attention to the size that you are shrinking by looking at the bottom right-hand side of the screen...when the measurements get to 50x50, stop. (See picture here->) Now save this file as Blank.gif Make sure you save it as a .gif or you won’t be able to use it as a buddy icon or upload it onto an icon site.

Part 3
Now you can make whatever you want in that space you just created. Whether you want to write messages with the Text tool () or draw little pictures, it’s up to you, but make sure you save it as a .gif or you won’t be able to use it as an icon or use it to upload on an icon site. If you change the file name before saving (File-Save As) then you won’t have to resize the paint screen anymore.
