Civilian Vessel
Database
Note: Some of these stats on ships of the I-War universe are official (taken from in-game information, the ship scripts or the ship identification chart), some are speculation. Another problem is that the I-War 2 Encyclopaedia, the I-War 1 ship identification chart and the scripts sometimes use VERY contradictory stats, especially as the masses are concerned, but I tried to find a balance. Well, here we go:
Multi-Role Vessels
Puffin Class
Manufacturer: NSO Industries
Classification: Tug
Standard Crew: 10+2
Note: The Tug
Emeric Pressburger of the mission "Routine Patrol" had a crew of 5,
so I assume 12 is only "standard".
Acceleration: 5 m/s
Max. LDS Speed: 0,17 c
Mass (empty): 5130 tons
Length: 75 m
Standard Armament: NONE / 1 PBC (forward)
This multi-role vessel, used by the Navy as well as transport or mining companies, is one of the most common ships in space. Easy to modify for any purpose, its abilities range from light transports or engineer tugs to convoy escorts and light security vessels.
---
Dreadnaught
Transport
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries / Various
Classification:
Corvette
Standard Crew:
Various
Acceleration:
Various
Max. LDS Speed:
0,99 c
Mass (empty):
8000 - 9000 tons
Length: 162 m
Standard
Armament: Various
One rather radical example of a modified Dreadnaught Class Corvette, this version can be used for transport or as a heavy tug as well as for security and escort missions. There are only few of these around, and as they are custom modifications, there aren't any standard stats for them.
Note: They don't appear in the game,
but the model is in the game directory. From some angles, it somehow looks not
finished yet. I assume Particle Systems planned to include these ships in the
game, but then didn't for some reason. The few stats and the comment are sheer
speculation, as there isn't even a shp-file for these. Anyway, I used one of
them in my mission "Civilian 3: Sweet Julia" which you can download
from my Mission Database. You even get to fly the "Sweet Julia" ;-)

Light / Medium Transports:
Kennedy Class
Manufacturer: NSO Industries
Classification: Barge
Standard Crew: 20+3
Acceleration: 12 m/s
Max. LDS Speed: 0,17 c
Mass (empty): 12.350 tons
Length: 324 m
Standard Armament: NONE
The Kennedy Class is a simple, yet efficient transport vehicle used for carrying goods. These ships use the same body as the front modules of Jeep Class troop carriers and similar thrusters, so they are rather fast by any standard.
---
Cormorant Class
Manufacturer: Various
Classification: Multi-Role Transport
Standard Crew: 20+3
Acceleration: 3,5 m/s
Max. LDS Speed: 0,4 c
Mass (empty): 14.500 tons
Length: 300 m Note: Compared with a Corvette
Standard Armament: 1 Light PBC (forward)
This vessel is
good for everything and nothing. Originally designed as a diplomat and
passenger ship, its low speed and poor armour make it rather unsuitable for
these purposes. Due to its unusual flat shape it has a poor cargo capacity and
is a rather inefficient transport. But its low costs and moderate suitability
for both cargo and passengers make it a popular tramp freighter and yacht.
Note: This ship
looks so kewl, you just have to love it! The comment is just speculation.
---
Jumbo
Manufacturer: Various
Classification: Passenger Ship/Shuttle
Standard Crew: 15+3
Acceleration: 5,5 m/s
Max. LDS Speed: 0,4 c
Mass (empty): 14.500 tons
Length: 300 m
Standard Armament: 1 Light PBC (forward)
This passenger ship is fitted with a capsule drive system as well as the ability to land on planets. It might be the father of the LST, though this is a pure civilian vessel only used for carrying passengers and colonists between star systems. It is incredibly expensive.
Note: I assume the black surface of
the lower hull is heat protection for atmosphere re-entry.
---
Flatbed
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification: Tug
Standard Crew: Various
Acceleration: 7
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive (standard)
Mass (empty):
11.260 tons
Length: 170
m Note: Compared
with a Corvette and the Command Unit
Standard
Armament: NONE
The Flatbed is a general transport for various purposes. Often used as a shipyard utility craft, it can carry smaller ships and external containers as well as a moderate amount of cargo. Though they are designed as short-range tugs, some of them have been refitted with LDS drives.
Note: I just can't believe these things
really have no LDS - why design a tug without an LDS drive?? I think the lack
of LDS was just a scripting trick of Particle Systems to force the flatbed in
the first mission to keep a speed of 1000 m/s.

Security
Vessels
Tariq Class
Manufacturer: NSO
Industries
Classification:
Patrol Combatant (Patcom)
Standard Crew:
12+3
Acceleration: 8
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,99 c
Mass (empty):
4870 tons
Length: 96 m
Standard
Armament: 1 PBC (forward), 2 missile magazines
The Patcom, designed for use in the Commonwealth Navy, isn't really a civilian vessel. Companies use these small, fast warships as convoy escorts or security vessels around stations.
---
Dreadnaught
Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Corvette
Standard Crew:
40+4
Acceleration: 7
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,99 c
Mass (empty):
8500 tons
Length: 162 m
Standard
Armament: 2 PBCs (forward and backward), 2 missile magazines
The Corvette is one of the most common and popular Navy ships. It is the heaviest warship available for companies and civilians, often used to protect convoys and stations in dangerous situations. Its modules make it very flexible and easy to modify for various purposes, for example transport or courier missions. The Corvette is a favourite of pirates.
---
Gun Platform
Manufacturer:
Various
Classification:
Mine
Standard Crew: 0
Acceleration:
0,5 m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive
Mass (empty):
1250 tons
Diameter: 350 m
Standard
Armament: 3 PBCs (360°)
Officially classified as a mine, this stationary defence platform is in fact a light gunstar unit. Commercially available, it is sometimes used by companies to defend freight yards or unarmed stations, as it is much more cost-efficient than a security ship. Pirates are keen on gun platforms.
Note: Again, speculation.

Freighters
Oakland Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Light Freighter ("Ore Train")
Standard Crew:
20+4
Acceleration: 1
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,33 c
Mass (empty):
500.000 tons
Length: 760 m
Standard
Armament: NONE
This is the basic freighter to carry up to 8 standard cargo pods. With rather weak armour and no weapons, this ship needs escorts in dangerous areas, but is effective at low costs. Often used to carry ore.
Note: I think they don't appear in
I-War 1, but there is a model for them as well as an shp-file, and they are on
the ship identification chart. They also appear in I-War 2 - Edge Of Chaos and
some custom-made mission for I-War 1.
---
Tir Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Heavy Freighter ("Space Train")
Standard Crew:
20+4
Acceleration: 1
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,33 c
Mass (empty): 1.100.000
tons Note: This
and the other freighters' masses are taken from the ship identification chart.
Length: 1204 m
Standard
Armament: NONE
This is the Oakland's "big
brother" with the possibility to carry up to 20 cargo pods. Docking weapon
pods instead of cargo pods can make this harmless freighter a deadly Q-ship.
---
Jeep Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
General Transport
Standard Crew:
30+3
Acceleration: 5
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,99 c
Mass (empty): 190.000
tons
Length: 742 m
Standard
Armament: NONE
Originally designed as a troop carrier,
this ship is also in civilian use, as a freighter as well as passenger or
hospital transport. Due to its military origin, it is rather fast for its size
and heavily armoured, compensating its lack of armament.
---
Clark Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Fuel Transport
Standard Crew:
16+4
Acceleration: 5
m/s
Max. LDS Speed: 0,33
m/s
Mass (empty):
180.000 tons
Length: 626 m
Standard
Armament: NONE
The Clark Class can carry any liquids or gases and is the most common tanker. It has a rather high armour rating, but unescorted, it's absolutely defenceless and an easy target for pirates.
---
Powell Class
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Mega Transporter
Standard Crew:
8+4+4
Acceleration: 2
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
0,33 c
Mass (empty): 3.800.000
tons
Length: 2,45 km
Standard
Armament: NONE
The Powell Class is the largest starship currently in use. Common tasks of this monster are carrying large amounts of freight or even smaller ships between star systems. Equipped with weapons, they can be dangerous Q-ships.
---
Misc.
Vessels
Utility Drone
Manufacturer:
Various
Classification:
Drone
Standard Crew: 0
Acceleration:
3,6 m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive
Mass (empty):
560 tons
Length: Various
Standard
Armament: NONE
These are unmanned utility craft used for various technical purposes around space stations or for short-range transport missions. Some of them are even equipped with capsule drive systems.
Note: No official facts are known
about these vessel except the stats taken from the ship script. The description
is sheer speculation.
---
Cargo Pod
Manufacturer:
Various
Classification:
Freight
Standard Crew: 0
Acceleration:
0,1 m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive
Mass (empty):
1500 tons
Diameter: 50 m
Standard
Armament: NONE
Not really a vessel, these standard Cargo Pods are available for many different goods and in various shapes. They are 50x50 meters freight containers with their own light manoeuvrability, compatible with freighters and standard docking ports.
---
Command Unit
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Command Unit
Standard Crew: 4
Acceleration: 7
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive
Mass (empty):
650 tons
Length: 20 m
Standard
Armament: NONE / 1 PBC (forward)
This is NSO's standard command unit, compatible
with most Corvettes and Patcoms. Docked to a ship, it is used as a bridge
module, but undocked, it is a vessel of its own and useful for short-range
shuttle missions.
---
Set-Down Unit
Manufacturer:
NSO Industries
Classification:
Shuttle ("Pastie")
Standard Crew:
Various
Acceleration: 7
m/s
Max. LDS Speed:
No LDS drive (standard)
Mass (empty):
1220 tons
Length: 20 m
Standard
Armament: 1 PBC (forward)
Compatible with an Corvette's crew module docking port and able to land on planets, this shuttle is a useful, handy ship of its own. Some of them have even been fitted with LDS drives for use as couriers or light transports.
Note: … just like the blockade runner
of "The Siege".
