Mr. Steve Tyson is the Geological Software Engineer of the GeoVisual Systems, Australia.

He has more than twenty years of experience in dealing with Geological Data Acquisition and Processing. Steve Tyson did his B.Sc. from the Imperial College, London, specializing in Geophysics, and Biophysics. Before moving to programming, he worked with several desert data acquisition crews ensuring the accurate recording of the seismic data. He was involved in developing many computer programs for seismic data analysis. He developed a 3D Seismic Processing System at Seismograph Service Ltd, Kent, UK, which was used in making a 3D system design and has a seismic database to handle pre-stack survey information and post-stack data. He worked as a Senior Analyst Programmer at BP Exploration, UK where he worked on the high-profile SIRCH - Statistical Modeling of Oil Reservoirs and on Integrated Reservoir Description projects. He was one of the key members who developed the Reservoir Modeling Software and other geological modeling softwares. He is currently the Director of Technology Development at Geo Visual Systems, Australia and also an Adjunct Professor, Industry Guest Lecturer at the School of Petroleum Engineering, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. His current research interests include Artificial Intelligence applications in geosciences, Continuously-dynamic gridding algorithms, The effects of scale variations on the efficiency of visualization and storage algorithms,  high performance N-dimensional data structures, particularly probabilistic balanced trees, and experimental design in Reservoir Characterization. He is also a Chartered Mathematician at the Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (M.I.M.A.) and is a member of The Society of Petroleum Engineers.
