Dave Moffatt tasted fame as part of 1990s teen sensation The Moffatts, but is now hoping to chart out a new course. "Even though I have been a part of a successful band, I think is a great opportunity for me to start something new for myself," he says. "I want this more than anything, and I will work my butt off to get it." Indeed, Dave says his brothers and former band-mates are his biggest supporters. "They push me everyday to better myself. I wouldn't nearly be as good as I am if it wasn't for them."

Dave was 17 when The Moffatts broke up. He backpacked in Australia and "got a real job" in Victoria. Dave lived briefly in Winnipeg where he appeared in the musical Miss Saigon. He's now based in Calgary.

Dave includes Michael Bublé and Gwen Stefani as two of his favourite artists and says the Canadian he admires the most is David Foster. "He has produced some of the biggest and most amazing artists, and I would love the opportunity to work with him."

Dave likes to bowl, says he's a pretty good cook and likes to "eat everything." The "love of his life" is his dog Paige and says if he could meet one person it would be Elvis. His favourite book is The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The song title that best describes him? Queen's Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy.

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your life?

My brothers and I were on our way to the Philippines and we had read that there had been an accident and one of their major hospitals had burnt down, so we took all the the ticket sales and donated them to the hospital and they were able to rebuild a new one.

Looking in the mirror and being happy with what I see.

Which item could you not live without?

My puppy, she is a pug and her name is Paige. She is my girlfriend. Haha.

What's been the best day of your life?

I would have to say making it to the Top 32. There was a lot of relief for me, cause I didn't think I could make it that far.

If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would have to say Elvis, cause I have heard some great things from people who had met him, he was a great entertainer, singer and person.

What do you think has gotten you this far in the competition?

The will and the want to be number one. I think talent has a lot to do with it as well, but mostly, I think its drive.

What will it take for you to become the Canadian Idol?

I need to break out and show the audience who I really am, hopefully they will like it!

What has been the most challenging part of the competition so far?

I have a hard time looking the judges in the eyes, and when I do, I melt. They are so scary way up there looking down on you. I know its just the way I look at it, but they scare me a little.

Whose career path would you like to follow and why?

I would have to say if I could follow the path of Paul McCartney, I would truly be a happy man. He is a great song writer, musician, and of course, he doesn't have to work another day in his life. Now that's not bad!

I would have to say my mom, I haven't seen her in years, but I talk to her almost every day. She is the one person I can talk to about anything. She is the shoulder I lean on.

Who has helped to make you the singer you are today?

I have never had professional training, but my brothers push me everyday to better myself. I wouldn't nearly be as good as I am if it wasn't for them.

"Tears in Heaven", by Eric Clapton, it's a beautiful song about true loss, I think that can affect everyone.
