Taking a chance

As I sit and listen I wonder what it is I am missen.
I hear the frogs out in the water-logged bogs
I hear in the distance an owl and his old pal
The whippoorwill sitting up high in the hills
I watch the scattered flights of the fireflies in the twilight
The clouds roll in saying that a storm is about to begin
In the distance the lightning is flashing and the thunder is crashing
I see the woman I love pull up; it makes me feel like a young pup
She has came to spend the night which just having her near is a heavenly delight
I met her one night at a local barn dance and I got brave enough to take a chance
My two buddies and I just didn’t see eye to eye
They thought I was silly when I said the one in the middle was one good-looking filly
She made my heart do flip-flops right from the start
So I walked across the floor just as she started for the door
I said miss could I have just one kiss, I’m mean dance
She turned and looked at me for a moment it was anger I could see
But her look softened and she said I don’t hear that too often
Since you took the chance you can have your dance
Now that night is history and to finish this story
I am asking her to be my miss’s for that night I did get my kisses
I thank God everyday and every night for this angelic delight
That I get to hold because I was so bold
When I took a chance and ask her for a dance.
