Updated: 02-27-2001:

  • OMC gets the indoor season back under way this Saturday, March 3rd. with Micro-Sprints, Outlaw Karts, Go-Karts, and Motorcycles at the Canyon County Fair Building in Caldwell, Idaho.

  • As many of you noticed on the Home Page, I made mention of the Eldora Million along with the link to their site. If you've never seen Dirt Late Model racing, this is the type of racing that groomed Geoff Bodine. Also, each year Eldora hosts the World 100 for Dirt Late Models. From sources, as many as 175 of the finest Dirt Late Models from around the country make this annual trek. With the chance at a Million dollar payday to the winner, the entry list for this first in Dirt Late Model racing should be huge.

  • The Owyhee Motorcycle Club has purchased a brand spanking new scoring system that will be in place for the 2K1 season. Its quality equipment. The same system F-1 uses. Scoring snafus?? Not likely friends. Starting in April, members of OMC and SWIMM will begin facility preperations for the 2K1 season by setting up a new track inside the 1/8th mile clay oval for Outlaw Kart racing. Also, in the works at OMC Speedway in 2K1 will be a new concession stand. As Mike Jackson stated at the January SWIMM meeting, it will update the concession building right into the 80's........LMAO. SWIMM, at their January meeting also approved a couple of rule changes for the 2K1 season. Tire compounds are now open to any compound. In 250 Pro rules, adopted was a 266cc maximum displacement. Some major changes for the 2K1 racing season here in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. All point in the direction of better racing and better service to the fans of racing here in Idaho.

  • After a one year abscence on a Mission asignment, Casey Taylor returns to racing on the OMC Speedway Clay for the 2K1 season. Welcome back Casey, and good luck.

  • 12/21/00 - Former Midget great Stan Fox lost his life in an automobile crash on December 18th in New Zealand. The Janesville, Wis., native was driving alone in a van in a stretch of the outback known as the Desert Road, some 200 miles south of Auckland, when he apparently hit another vehicle head-on. Fox was killed instantly and the passenger in the other car was seriously injured. "It happened at about 9 o'clock at night and he was going to visit some new friends,'' said Ron Hemelgarn, who was Fox's car owner at Indianapolis from 1990-95 and recently spent a week with him in New Zealand. "He wasn't wearing his seat belt and maybe that could have saved him. "It's just a damn shame. After all he'd been through." Fox was a successful short-track driver and also competed in eight Indy 500s, the last in 1995, in which he was left in a coma for five days after a horrific first-lap crash in which his body was unprotected after his car smacked a wall. He never raced again, but he eventually regained most of his body functions. Fox earned his racing reputation in midgets, winning more than 60 events from 1972-95, including the prestigious Turkey Night Grand Prix and Belleville Nationals twice each. "He was as tough in a midget as anybody who ever drove one,'' said Bob East, whose successful Beast chassis was first driven by Fox in the late '80s. "If he knew some hotshot was going to be running, that inspired him."

  • 12/15/00 - Kasey Kahne came and conquered the fast Texas Motor Speedway oval under the lights in passing his IRL driving test. Kahne, last out, of the three USAC drivers selected for rookie orientation took 70 laps to pass the test with a fast lap of 208.7 mph around the 1.5-mile superspeedway. The test consisted of ten laps within a speed range in four phases, 190-195 mph, 195-200 mph, 200-205 mph and anything over 205 mph. "The steering wheel was kind of jumping around during my first laps," Kahne commented.  "I wasn't comfortable the first few phases but it started feeling better every ten laps I ran.” "I was running as hard as I could the final phase," Kahne continued.  "I was trying different lines through the corners.  This is really exciting for me. Congrats to ya, Kasey.

  • 12/08/00 - Enumclaw, Washington native, Kasey Kahne was scheduled to take his Indy Racing League rookie driving test at the 1.5 mile Texas Motor Speedway on December 6th. with the Pennzoil Panther Racing Team. Kahne, along with 2000 USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Champion Tracey Hines, and Derek Davidson were scheduled to take Panther Dallara/ Oldsmobiles out for runs for their rookie licenses. • 12/08/00 -The Pennzoil World of Outlaws are scheduled to open their 2001 season February 23rd. at Hanford, Cali's Kings Speedway. Also, Alabama, the Heart of Dixie, will get its first opportunity to see "the greatest show on dirt" in 2001 as the Pennzoil World of Outlaws are slated to invade the Talladega Short Track twice. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series will also christen New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey with a $51,600 event July 30. The Silver State Shootout at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 1-3) will be the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' first big-money event and its first televised race in 2001. The Greatest Show on Dirt rolls into the Northwest starting August 14th. at Metra Park Raceway in Billings, Montana. I find it sad considering the corporate power and money Boise has, that  we spuds can't get put together a facility to bring an awesome event like the WoO to one of Americas true outdoor paradises. • 11/29/00 - A slimmed down Team Tater showed up and ran well in the 3rd. Annual "Turkey Open" at Delta Speedway in Stockton, Cali. I was informed by LJ that 48-600's and 27-250's made up the show in No-Cal. An impressive showing to say the least, and a terrific climax to the 2000 racing season on the left coast. One thing that can be said about living out here is us lefterners know how to race and we can count votes correctly too, well at least most of us. hehe. Merced, Cali's Carly Lawrence led from green to checker, holding off Fresno's Rob McMillan in the awesome 600 Multi feature. Boise's Rob Grice posted a strong 5th. in coming from the back of the 16 car field, from having to transfer in the B-Main. Kelly Newman of Meridian ended up in 11th after getting caught up in an early race mishap with another racer. Newman transferred to the main by winning the 3rd heat and also picking up a 3rd. in the Dash. In 250 action, Santa Cruz driver Garratt Boyden was mashing taters and the rest of the field until he ran out of fuel with just a few laps to go. Brian Gard of Kelseyville took over and held off last years 250 Turkey Open winner, Team Tater racer Randy "The Shovel"  Pierce for the win. The Shovel had to dig his way through the 16 car field after also having to run the B-Main to transfer. Fellow Spud Mike Harris picked up a turkey in winning the 250 Micro Dash. All in all a very formidable showing by Team Tater in No-Cal. Photos courtesy of M&M Photos.

  • 11/29/00 - Congratulations go out to fellow Northwesterner Kasey Kahne for winning the 2000 MCI Worldcom USAC National Midget Championship. Kahne, the Enumclaw, Washington native put his stamp on the championship by leading several laps of the event and placing a very strong 2nd. place to winner Tony Stewart. Yeah, that Tony Stewart. Meridian, Idaho native, Davey Hamilton placed 15th. in the super talented field of open-wheel midget racers.
