Luncheon Club

Taigh na Greine

IDEAs run Luncheon Club known as 'Taigh na Greine' ('House of Sunshine' in Gaelic) for older members of the community.
It is held at the Resource Centre on Mondays and Fridays between 11.30 and 3.30.

The Lunch Club is open to any older citizens in Islay. For a nominal fee of £4.50 you get tea and coffee, a two course lunch followed by entertainment and the chance to socialise with friends. This fee also covers accessible transport to and from your door, and if you would like to go shopping, to the bank, appointments etc in Bowmore.

The Lunch club is run by a team of volunteers, some of which are IDEA Centre members. This gives these Members the opportunity to develop cookery and home management skills.

To cope with the demand for the service, the Island has been split into four main areas - Bowmore Area, Port Ellen Area, Rhinns Area and Port Askaig Area, which are served on a fortnightly rota system. i.e.

Week 1 Week 2
Mon: Port Askaig Mon: Port Ellen
Fri: Bowmore
Fri: Rhinns
Week 3 Week 4
Mon: Port Askaig Mon: Port Ellen
Fri: Bowmore Fri: Rhinns

IDEAs provide accessible transport to all those who wish to come along. Those who prefer to use their own means of transport are welcome to do so but are respectfully requested to come on the day allotted for their area.

For more information contact IDEAs on 01496 810 963

Taigh-na-Greine is funded by the ‘Millennium Awards’ and ‘Better Neighbourhoods Services’.
