Orchestra

A golden silence reigns as the orchestra prepares
with baited breath the audience waits
as the conductor acends the platform.
in the stillness he raises his arm.

The music wells up around us, flowing freely
it is as a dew drop touched by the sun
beautiful, serene, the orchestra plays
then rests, counting silently to begin again.

His arm wavers- he staggers and falls
the audience jumps up- the music is over
the conductor has fallen! he lies still.
Concert's over- call an ambulance!

As quickly as the music started
it has ended. Punctuated
by a fall into
darkness.
