If They Only Knew | |||||||
Gabby stepped up to her front porch. Her heart was in her feet and she had a grin that would simply not wipe off her face. She knocked on her front door, rocking from foot to foot. God, it seemed so different and so the same. She could see through the Harrison’s kitchen window still… The Harrison’s were supposed to be moving into a bit of a larger house in the nicer part of Liverpool soon, according to George. He’d bought them a house. Imagine. George buying them a house. Another thing he was spending oodles of money on was cars. And it was still paralyzing frightening to drive with him. George didn’t believe in taking his foot off the gas or looking at road signs. He just….drove. The door opened and there stood Louise Harrison looking very much the same as she had the last time Gaby saw her. “Gabby!” she shrieked reaching down to hug her son’s friend. Behind Louise was Gabby’s father. They hugged long and hard and exchanged all the pleasantries. Louise was just over for tea and Harold wouldn’t be home from the Bus depot until dinner. Gabby was glad that her dad was in better shape then the last time she’d seen him. Widowers having grievous breakdowns were not a favorite thing of hers. They stayed and talked for nearly four hours until Gabby realized she need to run back to the Cavern for the show, the last one the Beatles would ever have there. She promised to be home for diner though. Louise laughed “Yeah, you say that now. Just watch she and George will be off being young after the show” “George? Young?” Gabby laughed “He’s a right geezer he is” “Indeed a Geezer?” Mr. Gallagher chuckled, “Just be sure to stop by before you go back to London” Gabby stood up and hugged him “Of course Da, I’m staying here tonight, ye know... Can’t get rid of me that easily you know” * She managed her way back to the Cavern where the Beatles had been locked up for the last six hours that they’d been in Liverpool. Ringo was drumming on absolutely *everything*. Paul was sleeping on two chairs pushed together with his suit jacket draped over his torso. Brian was muttering around trying to deal with a camera man who’d been sent to film the performance. There was only one entrance and exit to the Cavern. And the lines had been forming all day. Neil and Mal were running about trying to keep everything under control with relatively meek results. “D’you know what?” Gaby said to John. “I think this Beatle thing might just catch on” “Oh?” John laughed “D’you reckon that, Gallagher?” “Yeah” she shrugged “So when do I get to see little Julian Lennon?” John waved her off “I dunno, go find Cyn when we get out of here. She’s most likely at ‘ome. We’ve gotta buy a place in London soon. It’s too much trouble coming up here to see everything.” “What’s going on tomorrow?” Gabby asked, kicking her feet at the floor. “Day off” John sighed heavily “At last” Brian joined the conversation “And then they day after that it’s off to Dublin for a few shows and press. Then you’re in Manchester on Tuesday to play a relatively small but important venue. Then we’ll drive back to London hitting four more shows on the way down.” Brian frowned and took a deep breathe “Sunday we’re back in London for a BBC show so I beg of you John, no alcohol or getting pissed or whatever until *after* the show. I don’t need one of you injured or ill or anything like that.” ‘Aye, Aye Brian” John winked at Gabby “Are you gonna come with us” “You what/?” she laughed “I may be your biggest fan but I’ll not be traveling round the country in a bloody bus with you lot… I’ll catch up with you after the BBC shows. What’s going on then?” “Shows in London. Press.” Brian nodded “There’ll be no traveling for a bout a week because I’ve scheduled time in for the lads to look for suitable housing.” “Moving to capitol city are you?” She asked “I dunno. I gotta consult Cyn” John mumbled “Have you a place to live yet Gabrielle?” Brain asked jovially “Not really” she shrugged “Well… my dad’s I guess. Or me auntie lives down in Windsor but I’d really rather not *impose* on her” she rolled her eyes at John “I guess I need to find a job or a place to live.” |
