| The year is 2015. As the remnants of the human race cower in subterranean cities, a deadly war is being waged for what is left of the planet. On one side are the mysterious beings known as Angels; on the other, the special agency NERV and mankind's last hope, the awe-inspiring Evangelions. Piloted by a special team of young warriors, these giant bio-technical humanoids are the only thing that can withstand the force of the Angels defense fields long enough for the pilots to tackle the massive invaders themselves in brutal hand to hand combat! With the lives of every soul on the planet at stake, these few youngsters must reach deep inside themselves to find the strength and courage necessary to meet the Angels head on in a desperate attempt to save mankind. At the same time, NERV struggles tp pierce the veil of mystery surrounding the enigmatic Angels. Why was the Earth attacked? And why were the only Evangelion-qualified pilots all born exactly nine months after the great meteor impact that massacred half of the human race? | Without giving too much away this early on, the Evangelions are gigantic robots used to face off against the Angels. Developed with the help of the MAGI super-computer and the assistance of Ritsuko Akagi, the Evangelions only needed component is a human pilot to provide the beasts with a human soul to live on. |
| WHAT IS AN AT FIELD? |
| tThe AT Field is actually a physical extension of the human soul. The AT stands for absolute terror since that is what it spread because no weapon before the Evangelions could get through this force field. According to the series, the human soul is what holds human body togethor. The Evangelions however are fortunate enough to be provided with a human soul which can be expanded to equalize and break through an Angel's AT Field. |
| WHAT IS AN N2 MINE? |
| After the severe loss of human resources and devastation of a large proportion of the world's land by 2nd Impact, the UN had developed a non-radioactive weapon with the power of a nuclear bomb. The N2 mine has the devastating explosive capabilites without the intoxicating radiation lingering across what remains of the world. |
| WHAT IS SECOND IMPACT? |
| Although 2nd Impact is not mentioned in the first two episodes, the reason why the UN and Japanese Government is working to stop the third Angel is to prevent a Third Impact from occuring. Third Impact will eliminate every living thing there is on Earth. The reason why 2nd Impact did not achieve such an ultimately destructive power is because NERV was able to minimize the damage. |
