Igloo's News & Events | ||||||||
October 2nd 2002-Igloo graduated from a "Stand Up Comedy Class" which was taught by Mike van Holst at Studio K in London. Mike is the host of the Komedy Kave, and also has contributed to the TV show "NDT" and the award winning sketch comedy show, "Channel Surfing" (In which he does a great musical number!) Mike has been doing a lot of stand up for Yuk Yuk's as well. The classes were being hosted by Karen Try of Studio K. Igloo picked up some great pointers from taking the class, and says it's well worth the price of admission. Mike talks about how to write jokes, how to deliver the joke, and all kinds of great tips. After the third and final class on October 1st, Mike had booked a gig at "London Corners Bar & Grill", located at Dundas & Clarence Streets in downtown London, for each of the 7 students. The booking was nothing short of brilliant, it was a great night, and one of the graduates really excelled. (No, it wasn't Igloo!) Read about the gig here! Special thanks to Vinnie! |

July 3rd 2002-Professionals only please! Igloo Harras showed up at Good Time Charlies about 9:55 PM, and immediately struck up a converstion with Yuk Yuk's stars Kate Davis & Nikki Payne, intending to ask if he could go up on stage for 5 minutes. Igloo had a new set, that was going to be him at his most abrasive, a combination Dennis Leary and Bobcat Goldthwait with some Sam Kinison thrown in for good measure! However Igloo was informed by Good Time Charlies' owner, Dennis Chappell, that he'd rather Igloo not go on, as this was a professional show, and that there were places that Igloo could get stage time, ie: Amateur Nights. 'Nuff said, Igloo is a professional, if only in tact, and hey, he was glad to be able to get up twice in the past. Personally, the idea was for Igloo to build up a local following, and be an "in-house" favorite. As far as he was concerned, Igloo thought he was going a good job, and he definately saw more people since the debut of Yuk Yuk's at Good Time Charlies on June 12th 2002. But, it's very possible Igloo may have pissed off a local customer, it's hard to say. In any event, Igloo is in this game for the long haul. He had a nice chat with comic Steve Brinder, who reassured Igloo that "the game" goes on well into the professional years. The bottom line is that the comics themselves support supporting local talent. When Igloo told Nikki Payne that he would not be going on, she looked genuinely disappointed. These are the professionals, they remember thier roots. We all start at the bottom, and the rise up can be just as fast as the rise down. It pays to be nice! Show your support, e-mail Igloo HERE! |
