Interval International - Westwood at Split Rock

Do not buy !  We got suckered in... do not let it happen to you.

Here is our story, and this is what the wonderful sales people at Split Rock won't tell you.

We bought our Timeshare in 1999 with another couple.  We paid almost $10,000 US dollars.

What they tell you the truth
Buy your timeshare at Split Rock and you can go anywhere Interval International has a resort , there are thousands to choose from worldwide. We told our sales women Lisa Burke, (no longer with the company) that we wanted to go to shore every summer in NJ, MD, VA. She said no problem. The reality is there are never any times shares available during the summer months for exchange.  Very few people exchange their weeks and you can not go to a resort of your choice unless that resort had someone deposit a week.

You are led to believe that all the resorts are similar to Split Rock. The reality, while there are many great resorts in the interval international (II) directory, in many cases II may only have 2 or 3 rooms available at that resort, and in some cases they may only be 1 bedroom studio type rooms.  We found this out while trying to stay at the Red Wolf Lodge in Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe. We called the lodge directly and they informed us that II only has 4 one bedroom studio rooms available. But even those we not available when we needed to go which would be for a September wedding, which was not even during the resorts busy season.

You are required to pay a slight maintenance fee each year. This maintenance fee rises each year. (they do not tell you this ) We are currently paying $411/year + $114 to request an exchange. To put things in comparison. I recently went on an 8 day, all inclusive vacation to the Dominican Republic for $598, not through Interval International. This $598 included airfare, hotel, and meals.

You need to buy today to get this great deal. Availability is limited. Since we bought this time share we have been contacted by countless telemarketers, and have received countless direct mailers trying to get us to buy again.  Like I would do that.  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Free Gifts for listening to the presentation. In our case it was a chance to win a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a 3 day 2 night stay in Atlantic City. We showed up at the resort with our aluminum key.  They didn't even have a Jeep on site, just a lock on the wall that you put the key in. When you tried to turn the key it bent in the lock.  Our sales women Lisa Burke told me prior to yrying to open the lock...don't bother you don't have a chance. As for the other gifts, they had had conditions associated with them.

They wanted us to pay nearly $15,000 for the timeshare, when we said we couldn't afford that the manager of Spilt Rock came over and told us he had a one time offer for us. Someone had just sold back a timeshare and we could get it for the near $10,000 price, but we had to buy right then and there because someone else wanted it. When we called Split Rock to sell our timeshare we were told they do not handle sales of timeshares. So how did this manager sell us a timeshare that someone had just sold back?

If you have any questions or concerns call us we will be happy to help. Since I couldn't get anywhere with Interval International in trying to book a vacation to a location that I wanted to go to, I called Split Rock and spoke to a gentleman named Clete Carey.  He told me my problems were unheard of and he would get to the bottom of it, and call me back.  I am still waiting for that return call, three years later.
