  Toronto Alumni Club

The Toronto Alumni Club was created to bring together alumni of International House
in the Greater Toronto Area and to serve as a forum for continuing the mission of
International House. In the spirit of International House's motto – That Brotherhood
May Prevail
– the Toronto Alumni Club seeks to promote life-long qualities of
leadership, tolerance, respect, and friendship among individuals of
all nations and backgrounds.

 

Canadian Friends of International House

Based in Ottawa, Canadian Friends of International House (Amis Canadiens de la Maison Internationale) helps International House with fundraising and the recruitment of Canadian residents. Canadian Friends also administers two scholarship funds –
the MacGuigan Scholarships and the McLaine Scholarships – which provide support for Canadians living at International House.

Alumni living in Canada can make charitable, tax-deductible contributions to International House through Canadian Friends. Please send checks made payable to:

International House

International House is a vibrant community of more than 700 graduate students and
trainees who represent more than 100 countries each year. It is the most culturally
diverse student community located in the most culturally diverse city in the world -
New York.

The mission of International House is to enable selected graduate students and
interns from countries around the world to live and learn together in a challenging and
supportive residential community that builds life-long qualities of leadership, tolerance,
respect, and friendship among individuals of all nations and backgrounds.

This independent, non-profit organization achieves its mission by daily interaction
among its residents through programs, facilities, and residential life designed
to foster diversity of thought and experience, and to prepare residents for leadership
roles in the global community.

International House has enjoyed distinguished leadership since its inception.
Past Chairmen of the Board have included Nobel Prize-winning statesman
George Marshall, U.S. presidential advisor John McCloy, former U.S.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and former U.S. President Gerald Ford.
The current chairman is Paul Volcker, former Chairman of the U.S.
Federal Reserve System.

Among International House's 65,000 alumni have been some outstanding and
accomplished figures of global renown: journalist Flora Lewis; author Jerzy Kosinski;
actor Burl Ives; Belgian Prime Minister Mark Eyskens; opera stars Leontyne Price
and Shirley Verrett; Japanese automotive executive Tatsuro Toyoda; Nigerian author
Chinua Achebe; German choreographer Pina Bausch; Mitsubishi Materials Chairman
Takeshi Nagano; and South African writer Mark Mathabane.
