The Illinois Junior Rodeo Association (IJRA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a forum for young cowboys and cowgirls to learn and develop sportsmanship, character, horsemanship and other rodeo skills and to compete with other children their own age in a family environment. Participation in IJRA is open to Illinois residents from kindergarten through the 8th grade, who have not reached the age of 15. Eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant on January 1st of the year they wish to participate. Competing classes are divided by gender and age as follows: Kindergarten - 2nd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, and 6th - 8th grade. IJRA membership and payment of insurance are mandatory for participation in any IJRA sponsored rodeo. Western attire is also required. DISTRICTS The State of Illinois is divided into three districts. District 1 consists of the area of the state that is located north of Illinois Route 9. District 2 consists of the area that lies south of Illinois Route 9 and north of U.S. Route 50. District 3 includes all areas south of U.S. Route 50. |
