Bio: "Bryan Hawkins"
Bryan Hawkins began his martial
arts training in 1976 in Shotokan Karate. He studied Sho Shu and
then began his Kenpo training in 1980 at Ed Parker's West Los Angeles studio.
In December 1987, as a third degree black belt, he became manager and head
instructor of the West Los Angeles school where he remained until 1991.
During his time as manager, until Ed Parker's passing, Bryan Hawkins trained
at Parker's house in Pasadena twice a week. At this time Parker was
revamping his system, and so, Bryan Hawkins witnessed and aided Ed Parker
in the final revision of Ed Parker's American Kenpo. Hawkins was
a Kenpo technical advisor working with Ed Parker for the film "The Perfect
Weapon" and has since worked as advisor on numerous television projects
and theatrical releases. Mr. Hawkins owns and operates Bryan Hawkins
Kenpo Karate Studio in West Los Angeles and heads up the martial arts program
at various private and public schools in southern California. He
is President of the United Kenpo Systems, a martial arts organization with
affiliates throughout the United States and Europe. He is also co-founder
of M.A.P.S. (Martial Artists for Peace and Self-discipline), a nonprofit
organization whose goal is to help teenagers at risk, and runs a summer
Kenpo Camp for kids from all styles and systems. Bryan's an avid
hiker who lives with his wife Melissa and their two young sons in Granada
