People always ask me... "What's an ill cut?"

Well according to "BDJ's DJ and Hip Hop Culture Dictionary" it means:

Ill - (adj) (slang usage) 1. To describe unquestionable quality. ex. "Damn, that is an ill track"

Cut - (verb) (slang usage) 1. A quality song, or segment of a sound clip that is placed in a disc jockey mix. ex. "That DJ played my favorite cut!!"

Ill Cut (slang phrase) 1. Any song, clip, or insertion of afore mentioned items into any top quality disc jockey mix. ex. "There's no one that fades that ill cut like Rhetron"

BIO

In 1995 I was a 13 year old boy in Mesa, Arizona. Also in 1995 a quickly blooming DJ culture was coming up in Phoenix. Underground DJs were popping up everywhere. Even in 13 year old boys neighborhoods. I began my fateful turntable obsession at that age thanks to some local kids a few years older who were into hip hop and were willing to let a little kid watch, and learn the art of spinning. So most of my days after school, and in the summer were well spent learning basic stuff and getting my feet wet. Then as I was getting the hang of stuff my friends who had the turntables moved back to LA, and I was without decks. I did not resume spinning until 1999 (17 yrs old) after I had been attending raves for a little over a year. At that point I had never spun techno, only hip hop and old school electro breaks. I couldn't resist the call of the decks. Within 4 months me and a friend now producer in LA (Lynuz) bought a pair of Gemini's and a Gemini "Scratch master" mixer whose fader was so stiff you could barely scratch with it. Ironic. Within 5 months of that, I was beginning to encorporate a total of 2 decks and a computer he would loop his own song productions though. 9 months after he bought the decks he was playing house parties featuring sets of: Trance, UK Hard House, and Eclectic Club Blends. This was a far cry from the hip hop origins, and a rough transition. During the 2000 year I concentrated on playing house parties and throwing desert parties as well as parties in the city, never booking himself. Finally in October in the year 2000 at Welcome to Heaven. I made my main stage debut opening for Simon Apex (CA), and Dimension (NY) in an hour and 1/2 set of all styles from breakbeat techno, to UK Hardhouse. There were 600 + people listening and dancing. Originally I went by the name Jason Ecliptic. During the remainder of 2000, and 2001 I regularly played parties and massives in AZ and CA. Then it happened. The techno scene in Arizona went on life support. In late 2001, and 2002 the police would not allow raves to really happen in the Phoenix area due to irresponsible party goers. Attendance fell to record lows that hadn't been seen in 6 years. Promoters went under, DJs stopped getting booked. I saw the scene falling, and the drugs taking over, so I retreated from the scene. During end 2002, and 2003 I spent reconstructing my spinning style. This remodeling ended up turning me into a 2 turntable & 2 CDJ performer. I basically taught myself the art of the 2x4 without a second person. Also during this period I increased my scratching abilities, and made my mixing very fluid. Now everyone who hears it catches the Ill Cut Fever. Symptoms will be experienced whenever and wherever you are listening to an authentic Rhetron Mix. Symptoms include but are not limited to: burning feet, hypertension, over excitement, and a need to "boogie". People all over AZ's underground are currently experiencing this outbreak and should be aware. The only way to cure it is to get down and dance!! I am contagious.
