No to the US War of Aggression Against the Afghan People!

 ILPS General Secretariat

4 November 2001

On Sunday, October 7, under the pretext of “war against terrorism” and flaunting the title of operation “enduring justice”, US imperialism and its allies, deploying the latest and the most sophisticated weaponry in their armoury, commenced the bombardment of Afghanistan. This criminal war has already caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent men, women and children and has devastated many towns and villages in Afghanistan. Today, all the facts show that the real plans of US imperialism and its allies are not for a short adventure but for a long war against Afghanistan and other countries.

In the past decades, Afghanistan has been the scene of intense rivalries and devastating wars. As a result, the country has been turned into rubble, the economy is in ruins and millions of people have been forced to flee as refugees to neighboring countries. Those that remain are on the verge of starvation. The reactionary and backward-looking Taliban regime in power in Afghanistan, who have added to the severity of the hardships and the dismemberment of Afghan society were created with the direct involvement of the CIA and local reactionary puppet states in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The coming to power and brutal consequences of unleashing such a reactionary regime in Afghanistan is the direct result of the US imperialist policy in this region.

Today, the imperialist war against Afghanistan is conducted under the guise of the war of civilization and democracy against the forces of evil and terrorism. However, the truth is that this act of aggression is nothing but the continuation of the same old plunderous and genocidal policy of the imperialist powers in advancing their domination and hegemony in the world. The “war against terrorism” and the attacks against the WTC in the US are mere excuses used in order to advance the main strategic aims of US imperialism and that is to exert its control and hegemony over the sources of raw materials, particularly oil and gas in the Middle East and central Asia.

The imperialist powers led by the US are neither protector of the people in the advanced countries nor are they friends of the oppressed peoples of the world. They are neither against terrorism nor will they bring about democracy for the oppressed peoples anywhere in the world. They are the first and foremost enemies of democracy and freedom for the workers and the oppressed peoples everywhere.

The black record of US imperialism particularly in the past fifty years is nothing but genocide, plunder and crimes against humanity and the destruction of our habitat. They are the sponsors of the worst terrorism and narco-traffic. Through the imperialist sponsored agencies such as IMF, World Bank and WTO, the imperialist powers have taken the world to ransom and are the main exploiters and oppressors of the people everywhere. The current participants in the coalition led by US imperialism--like the ruling regimes in Pakistan, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Israel--are some of the worst violators of human rights and criminal regimes in the world. It is a fact that as long as imperialism exists there will be exploitation, oppression, unemployment, poverty, destitution, injustice, war and terrorism.

We must oppose this war of aggression against the people of Afghanistan and all the schemes of the imperialists to perpetuate and intensify their exploitation and oppression of the workers and peoples of the world.

We are certain that the ominous plan of US imperialism and its allies to rule and dominate Afghanistan and other oppressed peoples in the world is destined to be defeated. The path to this defeat lies in the unity and the intensification of resistance and struggle of the democratic and anti-imperialist forces against imperialism and reaction everywhere.
