Many of you know me as Michelle B., or Missy, but my new nick name is Snail Lady. This all started in the Spring of 2000, when my Kindergarten son found two tiny snails in our back yard. He wanted to keep them, so I did research on the internet to find out how to care for them. We took them as "Show and Tell" to three Kindergarten classes. When they had babies (and there were MANY!), we took them again for the kids to see. While I was eating lunch with my son at school soon after that, one of the girls said, "There's the Snail Lady!", and it stuck with me!
We look for snails in the Spring when it is moist and cool. We have learned not to keep them in the house past May though--it gets too hot and dry for them to survive inside.
So, now people send me things with snails on it--stationery, note pads, etc; I have pieces of snail jewelry; I have stuffed snails; snail figurines; and my family newsletter is all centered around our "Snail Family"!
If you would like more information about snails, do a search in the Yahoo box below with the word SNAIL. Then, maybe you can learn to enjoy our snail friends too! Of course, if you are a gardener, you probably won't enjoy them as much as we do! _@/"
